Shoe4Africa Nonprofit, helping out in East Africa. Public Hospital, six schools, women's empowerment program. Twelve years after the project started.

The Foot Africa logo is copyrighted, and was designed by SUM design in 2007. The name was 'made' in 2000 after the founder was robbed for one shoe on the eve of the millennium; one bare foot imprint was on the Zanzibar beach when the founder limped three miles to save his life.

We were honoured today to welcome the CEO of Eldowas, Mr. Tanui, to the Shoe4Africa Children's Hospital.

For those unfamiliar with Eldowas, they are responsible for managing the public water supply for the city of Eldoret and play a vital role in keeping homes, businesses, schools, and hospitals running every day. Quite literally, they help keep our city flowing.

Mr. Tanui made the transition from a successful career in the private insurance sector to public service, where he now leads an organization that provides one of life's most essential resources. We appreciated the opportunity to show him the work being done at the hospital, ant he new cancer hospital, and to discuss the importance of reliable water services in delivering quality healthcare.

Thank you, Mr. Tanui, for taking the time to visit us today and for the work you and the Eldowas team do on behalf of the people of Eldoret.

A big shout-out to the Child Life Team at Shoe4Africa.

Today they surprised the children with a very special visitor whose coming to live here...a giant red teddy bear!

The bear has been racing around the playgrounds, handing out hugs, high-fives, and causing no end of giggles and laughter. For many of our young patients, it was an unexpected moment of joy in the middle of a hospital stay.

It is amazing how something so simple can bring so many smiles.

Thank you to our wonderful Child Life Team for always finding creative ways to turn a hospital into a place where children can still be children. Today, a big red bear reminded us all that healing isn't only about medicine, but sometimes it's about laughter, play, and a little bit of magic.

This Saturday we were honoured to welcome a team of 40–45 people from Team Endurarthon, led by Doug, who came to visit the ongoing construction of the Shoe4Africa Juli Anne Perry Children’s Cancer Hospital.

They had travelled all the way from the United States, and we had all hoped that by their arrival we would be commissioning a completed building. However, due to unavoidable construction delays, weather challenges, and slower-than-expected processing of invoices, the opening has been pushed back by a couple of months.

Despite that, the visiting team—who are also engaging in a number of philanthropic activities during their stay, including feeding over 1,000 people today in the Kimumu neighbourhood—came with incredible spirit and support, and took time to celebrate the progress made so far. Thank you Guys!!

It is always powerful to stand on site with people who have travelled so far to be part of this journey. Their presence means a great deal to everyone involved in the project. We welcome and celebrate you!!

Today is World Environment Day, and fittingly, starting yesterday and continuing beyond today, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Forestry Service joined us at a community event we hosted at Kibuswa St. Mary’s Primary School planting trees, handing out trees, and remembering that it is our civil duty to protect, care, and, love the environment. The event was graced by the Trans Nzoia County Assistant County Commissioner, among other guests. We were also joined by Team Endurathon from the USA who gave each child two pencils and five soccers balls for the hosting school.

Loving the environment is seeing the environment, and that was our theme, and our day was built around a simple but powerful idea: bringing essential eye care to the community alongside environmental action.

Our eye doctors were able to screen over 150 local residents, identifying two critical cases requiring urgent follow-up care. Every parent and child also left the school with five tree seedlings to plant at home courtesy of Kenya Forestry service linking health, community, and environmental stewardship in a very tangible way.

Even after the formal program ended, the work continued. Our women’s empowerment group—supporting survivors of domestic violence—was hosting the visiting guests for lunch when Dr. Lily Morogo noticed that our eldest member (Koko Milly, over the age of 98) was suffering from cataracts. Without hesitation, she arranged for her to receive a free operation this coming Thursday.
It felt like a fitting conclusion to the day: a woman who has long cared for her environment now receiving care in return to keep seeing that environment.

Sharing some aerial shots of the rapidly developing Children’s Health Village that Shoe4Africa and the Fehsenfeld family are building on the MTRH campus.

In the foreground is the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital. To the left is the Shoe4Africa Idella Rome Consultants House. The long building, currently partially roofed, is the MTRH Harry Dyer Burns Unit (funded by the Fehsenfelds'). At the rear is the Shoe4Africa Juli Anne Perry Children’s Cancer Hospital.

We also have two further projects planned for this space, and our hope is to complete the current phase of construction as soon as possible.

All of these projects are driven by one shared purpose: to place the care of the child at the centre of public healthcare and to ensure that high-quality paediatric care becomes a lasting priority for every African child.

Thank you to all our SHOE4AFRICA supporters who have helped us bring this dream to where we are today.

We had a winner!
Congratulations to Abigael Chumba for winning the 2km XC race this past Sunday at the Kimuron School Races! 🏆

Even more exciting, the boys brought home the team prize as well. Fantastic teamwork and effort from everyone involved.

A huge congratulations to coaches Joanne and Leandre for guiding and motivating the team.

The Shoe4Africa All4Running team is out of the pack and moving forward fast!

Super happy arriving at the hospital yesterday and seeing a large pile of deliveries waiting outside… and even happier today when we discovered it was brand new equipment for the operating theatre on the ground floor (we have two).

The operating room is often called the heart of a hospital. It is where lives are saved, hope is restored, and miracles can happen.

So today was a good day, seeing the opened boxes and checking out the new equipment that will help our doctors and nurses save even more children’s lives at the Shoe4Africa Children’s Hospital in Eldoret.

Celebrating the coach’s birthday at the centre in Iten with plates of pilau, laughter, and of course… the traditional soaking of the birthday boy. Okay, birthday man.

Thankfully the water came after everyone had eaten.

Another fun weekend for the kids at All4Running. People often think it is just about running, but the club has become so much more than that. It is friendship, mentorship, games, learning, confidence, community, and giving children a safe place to simply be kids. Also, more kids receiving new All4Running clothing!!

In the Home of Running, we are trying to build more than athletes. We are trying to build happy childhoods.

A big shout out at our Hospital to all the Kenyan Nurses... it is Happy Nurses Week 2026 in Kenya (May 6th–12th) and we are celebrating the dedication of nurses under the theme “The Economic Power of Care”.

Honoring their vital role as the backbone of Kenya's health sector, celebrations recognize their tireless efforts in providing care, improving patient outcomes, and driving Universal Health Coverage.

At Shoe4Africa, we 😍🥰 our nurses!

Today we were happy to welcome the Lions Club of Eldoret to our hospital, bringing with them a wonderful donation of 200 books for our young patients.

For a child in a hospital bed, a story can do so much more than pass the time...it can bring escape, imagination, and a moment of thought away from the hospital wards. These books will brighten many days ahead.

A special thank you as well to our Child Life team, who sat with the children, reading aloud and bringing the stories to life in the most beautiful way.

We are deeply grateful, welcome again Lions, and thank you for making a difference.
