Rural Women Peace Link

Rural Women Peace Link RWPL is a legally-registered NGO in Kenya, under Registration Certificate No. OP.218/051/11-032/6983.

Rural Women Peace Link (RWPL) is a legally-registered (Certificate Number - OP.218/051/11-032/6983), non-partisan, non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in 7 counties in Kenya - Uasin Gishu, Nandi, West Pokot, Elgeiyo-Marakwet, Baringo, Laikipia, Turkana, Vihiga and Bungoma. Our programs fall under 5 thematic pillars namely Peacebuilding and Conflict Mitigation, Women’s Economi

c Empowerment, Women’s Human Rights, Leadership and Governance, and Girl-Education Support and Mentorship. We envision a well-informed, gender sensitive society that values practices and promotes peaceful co-existence for the impactful contribution of women, youth and marginalized groups in society and exist to mobilize, influence and promote the participation of grassroots women, youth and marginalized groups in peacebuilding, community governance and development through partnerships, collaboration and networking. RWPL was started by a group of local women peace activists in response to the women-specific concerns and issues that were emerging during and after the ethnic clashes of the 1990s in Kenya. These women acknowledged that the exclusion of women from the community decision making processes was the main contributor of high female vulnerability in situations dominated by ethnic conflict, economic hardships, socio-cultural exploitation, and political manipulation. From its founding concept as a network of women peacebuilders, the organization grew into a community-based organization in 1999 and finally became an NGO in 2011. From then on, RWPL has grown to become a trailblazer in building the capacity of women and girls, youths, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups of meaningfully participating in peacebuilding, governance, community development and other decision-making processes for a peaceful and equal society. RWPL works to contribute to the holistic development of women, youths, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups for their effective contribution to development agendas. It is based on the belief valuable and that empowering these target populations to be agents for change is not only a matter of equal rights but is also essential for the general thriving of communities and economies.

Every girl who stays in school is part of a changing community. In our counties of operation, there are various challenges keeping girls out of classrooms, but it is not a lack of ambition.

This year, we are walking alongside 97 girls through our mentorship programme with support from Kenya Girls Forward. We have watched them sit exams that they almost didn't get to write.

A girl who completes her education is statistically more likely to educate her own children. Her presence in a community — as a teacher, a health worker, a businesswoman, a leader — shifts what younger girls believe is possible for themselves.

Education is not charity. It is compound interest on a community's future.

Freedom is not just a moment in history, but a responsibility we carry forward every day.

We believe that true freedom is felt when every woman, every girl, and every community has a voice, is safe, and can lead. On this day, we recommit to that mission, uniting communities, nurturing peacebuilders, and empowering women and girls to shape the Kenya we all deserve.

Let us continue to unite, protect our freedom, and work together for a prosperous and peaceful Kenya.

Real change starts with real conversations.

This week, we facilitated a stakeholder meeting in West Pokot County, bringing together 30 voices, from government officials and community peace actors to climate champions, all in one room, working toward a common purpose.

Supported by the Embassy of Finland in Nairobi - Suomen suurlähetystö Nairobi, the meeting focused on something close to our hearts: making sure that women, girls, and young people aren't just affected by climate change, they're part of the solution.

Together, participants mapped out the psychological and physical toll that climate crises take on women and girls, and began building local action plans designed to address these vulnerabilities from the ground up.

Policies only work when the people they're meant to protect actually have a seat at the table.

We were pleased to host Mikael Wiking from the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi for a learning and engagement visit with our organisation.

The discussions highlighted our ongoing work in peacebuilding, governance, women’s empowerment, and girls’ education, while also offering space to reflect on the evolving context within our areas of operation.

A key highlight of the visit was hearing directly from beneficiaries whose testimonies demonstrated the tangible impact of community-centred interventions and partnerships.

We appreciate the opportunity to reflect on the impact we have been able to bring to our communities and explore the possible avenues for partnership.

Today, we celebrate the strength, love, resilience, and sacrifice of mothers everywhere. Your impact reaches far beyond the home and continues to shape a more peaceful and just society.

Happy to all mothers and mother figures.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Yet for many people, conversations around mental wellness are still surrounded by silence, stigma, and fear.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and supported. Whether it is checking in on a friend, creating safe community spaces, or seeking help when things feel overwhelming, every small step matters.

As we continue championing human rights, peacebuilding, and the empowerment of women and girls, we recognise that mental well-being is deeply connected to dignity, safety, and opportunity. Strong communities are built when people thrive emotionally, socially, and mentally.

Let us choose kindness, compassion, and understanding every day.

We’ve come to the close of the first round of our Civic Education Forums in Langas Ward.

Over the past sessions, we have walked alongside community members across all six geographical blocks, creating spaces for learning, reflection, and dialogue on civic rights and responsibilities.

This first phase, focused on Foundations of Civic Education & Citizen Responsibility, has laid an important groundwork for stronger, more informed, and resilient communities.

With gratitude to CPS of GIZ,German International Cooperation for the support, and to every community member who showed up, spoke up, and engaged.

Supporting and strengthening multi-stakeholder peace coordination structures is very key in early response efforts to early warning information hence prevention of violent conflict.

Today, in partnership with the Civil Peace Service of GIZ,German International Cooperation, we supported the Uasin Gishu County Peace Forum to facilitate comprehensive peace and security context updates, conduct a joint assessment of emerging early warning signs and collaboratively develop actionable peace strategies in preparation for the upcoming 2027 General Elections.

The forum convened key peace actors including government representatives, PWD representatives, community leaders, youth representatives, religious leaders, civil society organizations, councils of elders among others as a strategic step of fostering broader coordination, inclusivity and timely response to potential conflict dynamics at the county level.
