Exciting news from the team

We're proud to be part of the new AFR100 Programme cohort of restoration entrepreneurs from the County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet

Our project is based in the escarpments of Elgeyo-Marakwet County, where we're setting up an agroforestry nursery to grow coffee and shade trees. This land is prone to landslides, and we believe the right trees — grown by the community, for the community — can help stabilise these slopes while creating real livelihoods for local families. 🌳

Big thanks to AFR100 and E4Impact Foundation for kicking things off with a bootcamp packed with learning, coaching, and connection with fellow entrepreneurs doing similar work across the region. We're excited for the journey ahead!

This week, we were delighted to welcome Franklin Katisya, Program Coordinator IsraAID - Kenya, for a courtesy call.
When the devastating landslide struck in November 2025 in chesongoch, we worked together in the emergency response. Today, that partnership continues this time in the recovery and resilience-building phase.
Together, we're re-engaging the community with a focus on strengthening Local Disaster Response Committees, because lasting resilience starts with empowered local leaders.

The work ahead is just as important as the work behind us.

In our community engagement, we don't come to communities with answers. We come with a process that helps communities find their own.
Through the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) by the The Right Question Institute, we've watched something remarkable happen. People who were once passive recipients of information become confident, curious, and vocal participants in decisions that affect their lives.
From climate education sessions to post disaster analysis, QFT has helped us go deeper. Communities don't just receive information, they interrogate it, question it, and own it.
That's the kind of engagement that lasts.

The path is ready.

The forest is waiting.

Yesterday, we went to get a glimpse of what Saturday will feel like not just a walk, but a deeper connection with nature and with each other.
As we begin to grow the Movement, we are currently focusing on building a strong community of forest whisperers within Elgeyo Marakwet and nearby counties. This allows us to root the movement deeply in place, relationships, and shared experience.

When did you last walk into a forest with nowhere to be?

Forest Whisperers Movement together with Elgeyo Forest CFA is hosting a forest walk in Kimengech Indigenous Forest open to everyone.

We will walk slowly. We will breathe deeply. We will sit in the forest and let it do what forests do; restore something in you that the noise of everyday life has been slowly taking away.

We will forest bathe, share stories, and spend time with community members whose grandparents named the paths we will walk. That kind of knowledge that lives in people, not in books is exactly what this movement exists to honor and preserve.

Kimengech Natural Forest is a protected indigenous forest located in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya. It forms part of the complex ecosystem along the Elgeyo escarpment, contributing to water regulation, biodiversity conservation, and community livelihoods through sustainable forest management initiatives.

Today, visited the CFA’s tree nursery, where we were inspired by the incredible work being led by women and youth in nurturing new life for the forest. Their dedication is a powerful reminder that restoration is both a community effort and a generational responsibility.

We explored ways to strengthen the eco-tourism component within the CFA, through our Forest Whisperers Movement. These engagements continue to shape pathways for deeper connection, sustainable livelihoods, and community-led conservation.

Building Back Better is not a one-time event; it is a continuous, community-led journey.

In Marakwet, we are walking this journey together with communities, elders, and partners. Listening, learning, and uncovering the root causes of the landslide that took away lives November last year in Chesongoch, so that the solutions we build are truly sustainable.
