Awesome! 🎉In an inspiring journey of and , Hills School, Eldoret, has been making national headlines in sports - and HOKIL Foundation is proud to be part of their success story.

The girls’ three-a-side basketball 🏀 team recently clinched 4th place nationally at the National Primary and Junior Secondary Ball Games held in August 2024 at Kakamega High School. Their incredible performance followed their victory at the Rift Valley Regional Level, where their determination led them to finish top of their category!

“The team practised with utter commitment, often sacrificing their lunch breaks to hone their skills,” shares Mrs Rael Koross, senior teacher and boarding mistress at the school.

However, the journey wasn’t without challenges. One major obstacle? The lack of proper game kits. Despite this, the girls pushed through, showcasing their passion and dedication.

In mid-2024, HOKIL Foundation stepped in to donate sports kits to support the team. The girls’ basketball team received two pairs of branded kits - a moment that Koross described as pure joy:
“The girls were over the moon when the kits were presented.”

But the generosity didn’t stop there! The Foundation extended its support to netball, volleyball, football, and handball teams, providing kits for every player and transforming the school’s sports program.

✨This act of kindness has not only boosted sports performance but has also inspired the entire school.

“The donation has changed the attitude of the players and the entire student body. Many pupils now aspire to join the school teams and are motivated to excel in sports and academics,” Koross adds.

💪 Together, We Build Dreams: HOKIL Foundation's support is fosters a culture of determination and excellence, elevating Hills School to new heights. The achievements of these young athletes are a testament to what’s possible when communities come together for a brighter future.

🎉 Congratulations, Hills School! We are honored to stand with you as you continue to soar!

Tears of anguish and gratitude roll down Alice Tanui’s cheeks as she gazes at the open sky, standing near spread drying maize in Mosoriot Town, Nandi County. A mother of five, Alice recounts a journey marked by hardship and hope.

“I almost gave up on life,” she says, her voice trembling with emotion. “My son missed an entire term of school because I could not afford his fees.”

Alice’s 15-year-old son, Abiud Rotich, a Form Three student at Chemuswa Secondary School, was on the brink of dropping out. Thanks to HOKIL Foundation, that story took a hopeful turn. Over the past year, the Foundation has covered Abiud’s Form Two fees and part of his Form One costs—an investment of approximately Ksh 60,000 ($460) in his education.

“I can’t express how grateful I am,” Alice says with a tearful smile. "HOKIL Foundation has renewed my faith in life.”

Alice works tirelessly as a casual laborer with Cheptarit Star Women’s Group, earning Ksh 100 ($1) per kilogram tin of dried maize chaff she collects. Her children often help during school holidays, together managing to gather eight tins daily.

Building Empowerment in the Community
Cheptarit Star Women’s Group, established in 2014, has transformed lives in Mosoriot Town. Starting as a collective to pool resources for household items, the group evolved into an economic powerhouse, mentoring younger women and launching successful ventures.

By 2022, the group had secured a tender to supply maize to 400 schools in Turkana County. However, tragedy struck when aflatoxin contamination destroyed maize worth Ksh 16 million ($123,000). The setback devastated the group and its workers, many of whom relied on their income to support children in school.

HOKIL Foundation stepped in during this difficult time, extending its support to ensure no child’s education would be derailed. Alice’s family is one of many to receive this lifeline.

“I am hopeful again,” Alice says. “Hokil Foundation has not only supported my son but also reminded us that no challenge is insurmountable with the right help.”

At HOKIL Foundation, we believe that education is empowerment and that every child deserves the opportunity to dream and achieve. Together, we’re rewriting stories of struggle into tales of triumph.
