Yesterday we were blessed to witness the launch of the first pwani wiki club hosted by Wikimedia at Pwani University . By participating in different sessions & panels ,it was truly 💯 that, that was more than just a club but a powerful platform to document, preserve, and celebrate the rich Swahili culture and heritage of Coastal Kenya.

By telling our own stories and sharing our history with the world, we ensure that our traditions, language, and identity continue to inspire generations to come.

Proud to see this important step in amplifying our coastal voices.

Day of the African Child (June 16)

Theme 2025: “Planning and Budgeting for Children's Rights: Progress since 2010"
This year’s theme is a reflection theme that challenges governments to look back on their commitments made 10 years ago of ensuring they place children at the core of their national planning and budgeting.
The following recommendations were made to governments to consider
1. Ensuring that national planning and budgeting processes and outcomes are child-sensitive
2. Conduct child rights and impact assessment of laws, policies and budgeting processes
3. Increase the level of investment on children
4. Establish child rights budget tracking mechanisms
5. Adhere to the principles of transparency and accountability
6. Enhance national, regional, and international cooperation to mobilize resources for children's rights
7. Identify the various vulnerabilities among children to inform budgeting needs
8. Ensure effective data management system on children
9. Ensure child participation

Change Makers Hub & Tech Centre will be a dynamic innovation and community development & co- working space dedicated to empowering kids, youth, women, entrepreneurs, and local communities through technology, education, and social innovation. Located in the coastal rural Kenya, the hub will serve as a catalyst for positive change by providing access to digital skills training, mentorship, co-working spaces, and startup support.

The focus of the centre will be on equipping individuals—especially underserved kids & youth—with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital economy. Its programs span coding, entrepreneurship, design thinking, and leadership development, fostering a generation of problem solvers and innovators.

With a mission to fight poverty through education through bridging the digital divide and promote inclusive growth, Change Makers Hub & Tech Centre is in the process of collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector partners with the aim of driving sustainable community impact and create pathways to employment and economic opportunity.

Advocating for the rights of young people in marginalized communities involves addressing systemic barriers that limit their access to education, healthcare, employment, and social opportunities. It includes amplifying their voices, ensuring meaningful participation in decision-making, and pushing for policies that promote equity and inclusion, and that's why we exist.

Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, especially for underserved young people in rural areas. It provides essential skills, knowledge, and opportunities that can lead to better jobs, higher incomes, and improved quality of life. By investing in education, communities can empower youth with literacy, critical thinking, and vocational skills that increase their chances of economic self-sufficiency.

Challenges such as lack of access to quality schools, inadequate resources, and financial barriers often limit rural youth from receiving a proper education. However, solutions like scholarships, digital learning, mentorship programs, and community-led education initiatives can help bridge the gap. When young people in rural areas receive quality education, they become agents of change, contributing to local development and lifting entire communities out of poverty.

It's a WRAP, what an inspiring, exciting & informative 12 weeks Cohort 4 young change makers fellowship program.

Building Skills for young change makers is a vital step in empowering the next generation of young african transformative leaders to make a positive impact in their communities & beyond. The program specifically is designed to develop young change makers leadership, problem solving, project management , entrepreneurship, digital & advocacy skills.

Today is significant as they become certified young change makers who are ready to continue impacting their communities positively.
