DAMKA conducted a sickle cell awareness session during a village baraza at Bukolwe Village, Lusheya Lubinu Ward.

Out of the 44 participants in attendance, only 3 were women. The strong turnout of men is a positive step, especially in addressing the common misconception where women are often solely blamed for children born with sickle cell disease.

The session focused on genetic understanding, the importance of testing, and shared responsibility in prevention and care.

Our monthly club meetings in Khwisero and Muhaka were successfully held, creating a safe space for sharing experiences and strengthening psychosocial support.
