Did you know?
About 34% of Kenyan women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and around 13% have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. 🤔 Gender-based violence robs our communities of safety, dignity, and hope. By speaking out, supporting survivors, and choosing respect, we can build safer communities where everyone can live without fear. Stand up. Speak out. Support survivors. End GBV.💪💪

December 2025, Smile Woman of Africa reached over 100 elderly persons and widows with foodstuffs and basic essentials, spreading hope, dignity, and love where it was needed most. This is through our annual Smiles of Compassion Programme held every year in December to support the elderly, widows, and vulnerable people in Busia County. Together, we continue to stand with the most vulnerable in our community. Thanks to the support of our partners, volunteers, and community, we reached over 100 vulnerable elderly persons and widows and aim to reach more in December 2026.

Mentorship and menstrual hygiene education play a vital role in shaping the well-being and confidence of young learners, especially girls. Through mentorship, students are guided to make informed decisions, develop self-esteem, and build resilience in the face of life’s challenges. Mentors serve as role models, offering emotional support and encouragement that nurture leadership, discipline, and academic excellence.

Equally important, menstrual hygiene education helps to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation. It empowers girls with knowledge on proper hygiene practices, enables them to understand their bodies, and promotes dignity and self-care. Boys, too, are included in these discussions so they can understand what girls go through and offer mutual respect and support. When schools provide access to sanitary materials and safe facilities, absenteeism among girls reduces significantly, allowing them to stay in school and pursue their dreams.

During every school visit, we distribute menstrual hygiene products and boxers to support both girls and boys, ensuring that no learner is left behind due to lack of basic personal care essentials. Together, mentorship and menstrual hygiene programs create safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environments where every learner feels valued, confident, and capable of reaching their full potential.
