🟡 The countdown is on!

We are pleased to announce that the World Su***de Prevention Day 2026 physical commemoration date has officially been confirmed.

This year’s global theme is “Changing the Narrative on Su***de” — a call for all of us to move from silence, stigma and judgment to hope, understanding, compassion and action.

We are honored to have the CEC for Health as our Chief Guest during the physical commemoration. He will also deliver the opening remarks during our virtual pre-event on 1st September 2026 at 8:00 PM (EAT), where we shall also welcome our distinguished guests from the USA and Nigeria.

As we prepare for this important day, we look forward to:
• Meaningful conversations on mental health
• Stronger partnerships and collaboration
• Increased awareness and early support
• Creating safe spaces where people can speak openly and seek help

Every conversation matters. Every life matters. Together, we can change the narrative on su***de, create hope, and save lives.

It’s been over 60 years since independence.

But in Mkomani Ward, Lamu Central Sub-county, a mother in labour may still have to be pushed to King Fahad Level 5 Hospital on a mkokoteni.

Lamu County Government has TukTuk as an ambulance with no fuel and they don’t operate 24/7

The question is simple: What is the cost of a tank of fuel compared to the cost of a mother’s life?

Today, we joined National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADA) in Matayos Sub-County.
The event was held at the ACC's Office in Matayos and brought together government agencies, security officers, civil society organizations, the Community Working Group, and members of the public to reaffirm our collective commitment to preventing drug abuse and combating illicit trafficking.
The occasion was graced by the Assistant County Commissioner, who represented the County Commissioner, alongside the NACADA County Coordinator.
Drug abuse remains a serious challenge that affects individuals, families, and communities. Together, through awareness, prevention, collaboration, and support, we can build healthier, safer, and drug-free communities.

FIDS is privileged to participate in a three day Community Score Card (CSC) Training held at Cold Springs Hotel from 16th to 18th June 2026, courtesy of CARE Kenya .
The training brought together Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from four counties: Busia County, Siaya County, Kisumu County, and Migori County.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for learning, sharing experiences, and strengthening our capacity to use the Community Score Card approach in promoting accountability, community participation, and improved service delivery.
We extend our sincere appreciation to CARE International for organizing and facilitating this impactful training. We look forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained to strengthen community led development initiatives.

The exercise will be conducted by officers from Nairobi and Alupe, and live capture machines will be available to facilitate the application process.
We kindly urge all eligible youths to turn up in large numbers and take advantage of this opportunity to apply for their National ID cards.

Yesterday we had a meaningful and successful day at St. Lawrence Ojamong Comprehensive School as we held a session on Mental Health and Menstrual Hygiene.
While we remain committed to saving lives and walking alongside those who are hurting, we also recognize that we cannot save every life or mend every broken heart. Our role is to offer support, create awareness, and inspire hope where we can.
