Many efforts have been channeled in empowering the girl child and women at the expense of the boy child and men. It is now evident that we are solving only part of the problem, and leaving out a very important pillar in achieving gender parity in our country. Here is a call to not only focus on empowering the girl child, but also actively involving the boy child in education, and the importance to save our sisters from gender based violence

Adventure Youth Group is a registered self-help group under the Ministry of Gender, Children and social development (2009). It is an open group, currently with twelve (12) active members and eight (8) who have applied to join the group pending approval by current members. If approved in our next group meeting, the group will have a total of twenty (20) members. The group usually holds monthly meetings on every last Saturday of every month, with some being earlier depending on urgency and need. The group has its main office at Kimaswa market in Cheptais Ward, Cheptais District, Mt Elgon Constituency, Bungoma County in Kenya.
The group has currently eight members being four male and four female members, with four more female and two male members set to join us. Our focus is to fight the social evils bedeviling our community, like FGM, r**e, early marriages and teenage pregnancies. We generally fight GBV and protect the rights of the girl child. Different approaches are employed to achieve our objectives. Our previous activities include:
1. Behavior change and communication crusade, funded by ActionAid Kenya through Activista
2. Media campaign against FGM. This has been through radio and print media as well as social media platforms
3. Capacity building on dangers and health risks of FGM, early marriages, r**e and defilement; and teenage pregnancy.
4. Involving church leaders and other stakeholders in the fight against FGM, early marriages and teenage pregnancies.
The group has done and achieved this with very minimum funding from both the donors and government agencies. All these have been driven by the zeal and desire to see a better Mt Elgon for future generation than we found it. Our activities are done in the whole of Mt Elgon, with special focus on most affected areas with FGM, early marriages, teenage pregnancies and r**e and defilement cases.
