Poverty remains the most formidable barrier to a girl's education. When households survive on less than $2.15 per day, the inability to cover direct and indirect costs creates a constant cycle of school expulsions and total exclusion. Beyond the fees, poverty-related challenges—such as hunger and a lack of school supplies, uniforms, or menstrual hygiene products—severely hinder a girl’s ability to attend school regularly or study effectively.
Furthermore, economic hardship is a primary driver of early marriage. In a desperate bid to reduce the number of mouths to feed or to gain resources through a "bride price," families often feel pressured to marry off their daughters, creating a tragic cycle where early marriage is both a cause and an effect of educational exclusion.
