Imagine walking into a bank and being turned away because you don't own land. Imagine having a brilliant business idea but no access to credit, training, markets, or information. For millions of women, this isn't imagination, it's reality.

Gender responsive businesses don't give women special treatment. They remove barriers that were never meant to exist.

When women can access services without discrimination, businesses grow stronger. Families become more secure. Communities become more resilient. Economies become more inclusive.
The real question is no longer "Can women succeed?"

It's "Have we built systems that allow them to?"
Let's stop expecting women to fit into systems that exclude them. Instead, let's build systems that work for everyone.
Because inclusion isn't charity. It's smart, sustainable development _ Hellen Adhiambo Odhiambo

Every child deserves the opportunity to speak, be heard, and express themselves without fear.

Last Sunday, we joined the Media Council of Kenya at the Schools Journalism Expo in Kisumu where young voices from 40 secondary schools in the Western Kenya Region took center stage to showcase their skills in storytelling through reporting in different mediums. Journalism empowers children to think critically, ask questions, tell their stories, and contribute positively to society.

Protecting children's right to freedom of expression means creating safe spaces where they can speak confidently, responsibly, and respectfully. When we nurture young voices today, we build informed, courageous, and active citizens for tomorrow.

The support of the Kisumu County Parents Association was critical in creating spaces for the support for learners to be supported in shaping ideological thoughts anchored in freedom of expression and speech.

Today we joined the world in Kisumu by engaging with the County Commissioner, County Government of Kisumu , State Department for Gender Huduma Centre - Kisumu, CSOs and community members to have discourse on Prevention of GBV during Conflict. We take note that we must have a budget dedicated to address the prevention of GBV during Conflict and have systems within communities to address trauma and livelihoods disrupted. We stand by survivors of GBV in the post election violence, during land/border disputes and commit to have communities understand the impact of GBV and the reparations needed through a survivor centered approach. We also commit to have an intersectional and intergenerational engagement sustained at the community level.

Today was a truly inspiring day as Kenya Female Advisory Organization (KEFEADO), in partnership with Kisumu County Parents Association and our friends from the USA and Switzerland, engaged with learners at Joyland Comprehensive School, Mama Ida Odinga Secondary School, and St. Francis Primary School.
The mentorship sessions focused on careers, goal setting, resilience, and the power of dreaming beyond one's circumstances. Our team members shared their personal journeys where they came from, the challenges they faced, the lessons they learned, and how they worked toward achieving their goals.
The learners had an opportunity to reflect on their own dreams and aspirations. Many expressed a desire to become doctors, engineers, pilots and leaders who will positively transform their communities.
One of the key messages shared throughout the day was that success is not determined by where you start, but by your determination, hard work, discipline, and willingness to learn. Every successful person has a story, and every child has the potential to write a remarkable future.
We believe that mentorship creates hope, builds confidence, and opens doors of possibility for young people. By connecting children with mentors who have walked different paths, we help them see that their dreams are valid and achievable.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the school administrations, teachers, parents, mentors, and partners who made these engagements possible. Together, we are nurturing a generation of informed, confident, and purpose-driven young people.

"A child who is inspired today becomes a leader who transforms tomorrow."

Gumzo Mtaani: A Young Women-Centered Approach

Gumzo Mtaani provides a safe and inclusive space where young women can openly discuss issues affecting their lives, health, education, leadership, and wellbeing. Through meaningful conversations, young women are empowered to share their experiences, voice their concerns, and participate in finding solutions to challenges within their communities.

A young women-centered approach ensures that their needs, aspirations, and rights are prioritized. It promotes confidence, leadership, access to information, and active participation in decision-making processes. By creating opportunities for dialogue and mentorship, Gumzo Mtaani strengthens the capacity of young women to become agents of positive change in their families, schools, and communities.

When young women are heard, supported, and empowered, communities become stronger, safer, and more equitable for everyone.

We shall speak up until justice is received for women and girls at risk on any form of GBV and Femicide . May all women and girls in their intersecting identities be free from all forms of Violence because systems of justice and protection enshrined in the constitution of Kenya 2010 are applied in totality.

The quest to end Violence Against Women and Girls is a collective effort through the feminist intersectional and intergenerational movements on Kenya. We demand acceleration on the commitments made by the Task Force on addressing Femicide and urge communities to speak up on the cases. We must change the narrative that allows the daily murders to continue.

Civil society organisations and human rights activists in Kisumu have renewed calls for urgent action to end the
