We recently conducted a series of Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to better understand the impacts of climate change in the Mau Forest and how these changes are affecting Ogiek women and girls, men, youth and persons with disabilities.
These conversations provided a safe space for community members to share their experiences, challenges, and recommendations on forest conservation, climate resilience, livelihoods, and inclusive participation in decision-making. Their voices are essential in shaping solutions that are community-led, gender-responsive, and respectful of Indigenous knowledge.
At OSEN we believe that effective climate action begins by listening to the people who have protected the forest for generations. We remain committed to amplifying Indigenous voices and advocating for policies and programs that recognize and protect the rights, knowledge and leadership of the Ogiek community.
Together, we can build a more resilient future for the Mau Forest and its people.

Yesterday OSEN participated in the National Policy Framework dialogue under the theme "Strengthening the Participation of Women with Disabilities in Kenya's Climate Governance and National Policy Dialogue."

The discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that women with disabilities are meaningfully included in climate decision making processes, policy development, and governance structures. Building an inclusive and climate resilient Kenya requires that every voice is heard and represented.

Together, we can create policies that leave no one behind and empower women with disabilities as key contributors to climate action and sustainable development.

Last week, Ogiek Sisters Empowerment Network had the privilege of participating in a Security Management and Wellness training with Defenders Coalition The overall goal was to help participants better understand their risk environment, identify threats and vulnerabilities, and make informed security decisions.
The training was very insightful we also explored the digital threats we face as human rights defenders and learned practical tips on how to secure our online assets and use digital tools safely.

Happy New Year! 🎉

We kicked off the year with our first two-day network convening under the Tupigane na Ufisadi (TUNU) Project, bringing together civil society organisations fromUasinGishu Civil Society Network andBaringo Civil Society Organisations Forum . The meeting focused on strengthening use of the Uwajibikaji Pamoja Platform to promote citizen reporting, accountability, and data-driven action at county and community levels.
