This morning at around 0800hrs, a hyena was found feeding on dumped poultry remains in Kamenu Location, Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County (near Thika). The animal was surrounded by residents, chased, killed, and slaughtered before response teams arrived. Several individuals fled with parts of the carcass, including internal organs.

Members of the public are strongly warned not to handle or consume any meat from the animal.

Hyenas are scavengers and may carry dangerous diseases such as Rabies, Anthrax, Brucellosis, and foodborne infections like Salmonella infection and E. coli infection.

𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐒𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲:

-Do not consume the meat

-Surrender it immediately to authorities

-Seek medical attention if exposed

-The killing and consumption of wildlife is illegal and punishable by law.

Protect your health. Say No to Bush Meat.

Yesterday at Stripey Horse – Maanzoni, community wildlife scouts drawn from conservancies and ranches across the landscape came together for a vital training on vultures and the growing risks of vulture poisoning in our ecosystem.

The session highlighted the critical role vultures play in maintaining a healthy environment, and the urgent need to safeguard them from poisoning threats.

We sincerely appreciate the efforts of Trevor Malinda, Merab Eliezer, Kws Machakos and the Nature Kenya team for organizing this impactful training.

Together, we continue to strengthen community-led conservation and protect our shared landscape. πŸ¦…πŸŒΏ

Eid Mubarak from Athi Kapiti Wildlife Conservancies Association 🌿

This Eid, we take time to reflect on the beauty of nature that God entrusted to humanity, as taught in the Quran β€” and to consider how we have cared for that sacred gift.

Let this season be a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect, preserve, and live in harmony with the natural world.

May this Eid bring peace, compassion, and renewed commitment to safeguarding our environment for future generations.

Eid Mubarak to you and your loved ones
