A hungry community can not truly thrive. When people struggle daily to put food on the table, anger and desperation often take root. That is why food security and livelihood initiatives are the foundation of genuine social justice and lasting peace.
Yesterday, under the coordination of the Kisumu County SJCs Caucus, we had the privilege of a rich peer-learning session at Nyalenda A Social Justice Centre (United Destiny Shapers - UDS). We joined other comrades to listen, learn, and exchange ideas on practical solutions that directly touch people’s lives.
We were deeply inspired by the powerful climate justice and livelihood work happening at UDS, particularly their black soldier fly production, smart urban farming, and biogas projects. These are not just projects but real tools creating food security, generating income for families, turning waste into wealth, and building community self-reliance in the face of climate challenges.
Seeing is believing. We left with fresh conviction and clear plans to adapt and introduce and influence similar life-changing initiatives across our own community. Because a well-fed, empowered community is a stronger, more organised, and more hopeful community.
