Comrades,

The charges and rules for our meeting room services have changed and are included with this message. No major impact on us short of a very small cost change.

CONGRATULATIONS to VFW Life Member and former U.S. 7th Fleet Command Master, Daniel K. Field on his retirement from the Naval Service. We also congratulate his lovely bride Jaimie and his entire family for their service over the last 34 years.

In attendance at the ceremony and during the post ceremony celebrations were at least 30+ members of both VFW Post 1054 and the FRA Branch 103.

Of special note was the attendance by Dan's mother and father via Zoom. Mr. Jesus Field's remarks were powerful and very thoughtful. They emphasized their family bond and family commitment to service before self. Right by his side, as she has been for 57 years, sat a VERY proud mother, Mrs. Deanna Kay Field. They both lit up a rather large room and helped to inspire us all to do more and keep doing better.

On another note, we learned Dan doesn't do well with other peoples pets. Fortunately for us Dan isn't going anywhere too soon so we look forward to serving with him as we continue to support Veterans and the Community for years to come.

Hooyah CMC, Hooyah Navy Family!

Welcome aboard to the now most junior member of the Yokosuka retired veterans community.

Chicken Santa? NOBODY calls Santa Chicken....however, he does deliver!

Santa Mike Lutman and his trusty Auxiliary (At Large) copilot Sayuri Lutman FINALLY got back to conducting our annual CHICKEN SANTA community service event by providing Popeye's Chicken and all the trimmings to The Flower Arrangement Group, Kamakura.

The last time we did this was in 2018, just before COVID. It was fun giving back to the community and seeing old friends AND new ones! This eclectic group of 20 ladies ranges from PhDs to ordinary family members. The first group of five is captured in a pic along with Santa. Pictured also is Matoba Sensei, who has been practicing and teaching the art of flower arrangement for 8 decades.

We are already planning for next year! Merry Christmas to the entire group of Flower Arrangers (we call them Flower Rangers) from VFW Post 1054!

WELCOME HOME USS GEORGE WASHINGTON!!!

BZ to JVC Earl Jackson and Chaplain Fred Fernandez for manning the Welcome Home Committee!!! Alongside our AAU USS GEORGE WASHINGTON FAMILY READINESS GROUP, Comrades were on hand to represent the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW and welcome home thousands of Active Duty men and women back to Yokosuka.

The USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) USS George Washington (CVN 73) is the sixth Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier named in honor of the first president of the United States and serves as the nation’s only premier aircraft carrier forward-deployed to Japan. She carries a full complement of over 6,000 sailors and air wing personnel, typically around 3,200 ship's company and another 2,500 from the Carrier Air Wing, making for a total crew of roughly 5,700 to over 6,000 people when deployed, depending on the embarked air wing.

HOOYAH to all the Great Americans and their family members serving our great nation and protecting Freedom, Forward Deployed in Japan.

Thank you Shibuya-san for connecting us with the Shunko-gakuen Child Welfare Facility once again to provide Christmas support. I'm disappointed I can't do the Santa thing this year due to the flu outbreak there, but we hope our donation of candy and treats will make up for it.

Thanks to Fernando Fernandez for his help in putting together the bags of treats for the kids and the staff.

Also, thank you to Sayuri Lutman for making the signs and helping with the effort. As always, she is there to help make sure we have a great event/effort.

Hooyah Christmas 2025 and Merry Christmas to all the kids and staff at the Shundo-gakuen!!!

Comrades,

FYSA from our DPA Commander Jack Farrell regarding BALL CAPS at Post Meetings or OFFICIAL FUNCTIONS. This was covered during our training at the OCT meeting.
---
Comrades may purchase the alternate Caps in the attachment and wear at VFW Meetings, (Post, and District). Reference MOP Sec 803 (page 101 of the Podium Edition 2026). HOWEVER, ALL OFFICERS MUST WEAR THE TRADITIONAL VFW CAP DURING ALL MEETINGS, so wearing the Alternate Cap by an Officer during a Meeting is NOT AUTHORIZED!! This is not to tell an Officer that he/she can't purchase an alternate Cap, they just CANNOT wear it during a Meeting.
---
In addition, here is information from the National QM General Marc Garduno:

We’ve received some inquiries regarding the status of the alternative caps. Please inform your District and Post leaders that the VFW Store will commence taking online pre-sales starting Tuesday, December 2nd. We expect these orders to be fulfilled sometime between mid to end of month January. Embroidery of these caps will follow the instructions spelled out in MoP Section 803. Since there is limited space for only 18 characters, we will adhere strictly to the titles and abbreviations for only the titles available in the drop down. Starting Dec 2nd, caps will be available at this link https://www.vfwstore.org/category/vfw/uniformcapandnametags
---
...and finally, for the lawyers out there, here is the direct quote from the BYLAWS/MOP:

Alternative Cap. A baseball-style cap, black in color, lettered with VFW initials, Post numerals, state, rank of office (when applicable), Veterans of Foreign Wars and bearing the Cross of Malta may be worn by members other than officers during meetings of the Post and District. Lettering on each cap shall be in gold. The trim on the front of the bill shall be either gold, green, red, or silver, corresponding to the official braid colors for the respective organizational echelon. The baseball-style cap shall be an alternative to, but not a replacement for the
regulation overseas cap and shall not be worn in place of the regulation cap at formal ceremonies, when in business attire, or at events where the regulation cap is prescribed.f

BOTTOM LINE: If you are at a MEETING, CEREMONIAL EVENT (funeral, memorial, etc) or in business attire (wearing a suite or formal VFW clothing representing the VFW at a function), do NOT wear the ball cap. If in doubt, don't wear it. Trust your gut and go with your regular cap. You can pretty much wear the ball cap at any other thing.

Comrades,

Please read the RFI below.

Good afternoon,

I hope you all had a great Veteran's Day. I am seeking the information for any veteran that might have used a claims shark and was disappointed with their service and turned to VFW for support, I am hoping some of them would speak with a reporter anonymous of course, about their experience with the company, if you have assisted any veteran with something like this and could make contact with them to see if they will do this, it would be greatly appreciated. If you have anyone willing, please send me their contact information. Thank you and have a great rest of your week.

Respectfully,

Thank you to our canteen sponsor Shibuya-san for including VFW Post 1054 in the Autumn Yokosuka Curry Festival 2025! It was a rainy but productive day selling coins, sodas and chips alongside Shibuyasan's team of curry masters.

Great job by Mrs. Sayuri Lutman for putting together ALL the advertising and posters along with organizing the VFW half of the tent.

Big shout out to our favorite MCPOM #1 Ikuo Saga for his support. Saga-san was a big help with getting customers over to the tent. He also provided "umbrella" services for those buying curry while standing in the rain.
