✨Event Report✨

The Annual General Meeting of the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce took place on 28th May at Ireland House, Yotsuya.

This annual gathering served as a valuable opportunity for our members to connect, reflect on the achievements in our community over the last year, and have their voices heard as we begin building our strategy for the new financial year.

This year we were delighted to be joined by representatives from our partner organizations in Team Ireland and the European Business Council to deliver exclusive insights on the Ireland-Japan relationship to our members.

The evening also saw a new board of directors elected to lead the activities of the Chamber for 2026-2027.
Speaking on the upcoming year, IJCC President Sarah Hickey shared the following:

"As we look to the year ahead, I’m excited about what we can continue to build together. Our focus will be on increasing meaningful business engagement, creating more opportunities for our members to connect, and continuing efforts to strengthen connectivity between Ireland and Japan — including renewed focus on securing a direct flight between our two countries.

To our members, I would also encourage you to continue getting involved, sharing ideas, and letting us know how we can better support you. The Chamber is strongest when it reflects the needs and ambitions of its members, and we want to continue creating meaningful value for all of you."

Conscious: Develop Systems and Lifecycle Intelligence

As businesses become more complex, the consequences of decisions travel further. Materials, energy, labour, and data move across borders, often becoming invisible along the way.

In this context, being conscious is not abstract. It is about seeing the full system.

Conscious leadership expands awareness beyond the factory gate. It traces the journey of materials, energy, labour, and cultural influence from origin to end-of-life and beyond. It surfaces hidden costs and unseen dependencies.
This is not philosophy. It is practical systems modelling.

Gathering during Golden Week, attendees shared a relaxing brunch that provided a great space to socialize with other members and discuss upcoming chamber initiatives. Taking advantage of the nice weather and the trendy location, the group wrapped up the day on the rooftop of Cirty Café in front of Daikan-yama station for vegan gelato and coffee.

Thanks to all who joined and especially to IJCC member, Alena Blizhnikova, for her excellent work on organizing the event.

On April 23, the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC), represented by Dublin based Directors Mary Honohan and Dominic Keogh, in collaboration with Takeda Ireland, hosted an exclusive event exploring how Ireland’s energy leaders are turning the challenges of the energy transition into new opportunities. The event formed part of the Ireland and Japan Business Seminar Series.

This seminar commenced with opening remarks from Ronan Fitzgerald, Head of Strategy, Global Supply & Quality, Takeda Ireland and Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, laying the foundation for insightful discussion on creating opportunity from Energy Transition, with contributions from Rosheen McGuckian (CEO, NTR plc), Enda Gunnell (CEO, Pinergy), Graham Grogan (Head of Engineering, Takeda Ireland) and Dr Paddy Finn (CEO and CTO, VIOTAS).

There was a lively Q&A session, which was moderated by Val Cummins, (Chief Impact Officer & Portfolio Director Ireland, Simply Blue Energy). The IJCC would like to extend its sincere appreciation to our moderator and our speakers.

The formal part of the evening was followed by a reception, offering guests the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas with industry professionals and leading energy executives.

The IJCC extends its sincere thanks to Takeda Ireland, particularly Ronan Fitzgerald and Tony Ahern and all those involved, and all contributors for hosting and supporting this successful event.
