The UNFPA Tokyo Representation Office is currently recruiting an Media PR Consultant available to work from October 2026 onwards.

UNFPA addresses issues such as global population issues, sexual and reproductive health/rights of women and youth in developing countries, and gender equality. The role of UNFPA Tokyo Representation Office includes organizing campaigns and public events, disseminating information through the media and collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders to conduct advocacy activities.

若者は、パートナーと支え合いたい。家族をつくりたい。
そして、自分らしい未来を歩きたい。
UNFPAが日本を含む73カ国・地域の10万8千人の若者に聞いた「人生・家族・未来」。

そこから見えてきたのは、こんな「リアル」です。
🔹 結婚や子どもを望む若者は多数派
🔹 親になる条件のトップは「経済的な安定」（88%）
🔹 パートナーシップの最大の壁は「お金と住まい」
🔹 子どもを望む理由は「幸せと喜び」が圧倒的
🔹 でも、雇用の不安やジェンダー規範が選択を難しくしている

若者は「家庭を望まない」のではなく、
望む未来を選べる環境がまだ整っていないだけです。

今回の調査は日本政府も「こども家庭庁」を通して支援しています。
山﨑和之・国連日本政府常駐代表は
「日本政府およびこども家族庁は、本報告書に示された貴重な知見を、
今後の政策立案に活かすため、その最適な活用方法を慎重に検討します」と、述べました。

Young adults want to support their partners, build families,
and walk toward a future that feels true to themselves.
UNFPA asked 108,000 young people across 73 countries and territories — including Japan — about their lives, relationships, and hopes for the future.
What emerged was a picture of their real experiences:
🔹 More than two thirds of respondents want to marry or live with a partner.
🔹 Top condition for becoming a parent: economic stability (88%)
🔹 Economic and housing constraints constitute the most common obstacles to forming partnerships.
🔹 Main reason for wanting children: joy and happiness
🔹 Yet job insecurity and gender norms make these choices harder
Young adults are not turning away from family life —
they simply lack the conditions that allow them to choose the future they want.
The Japanese government is also supporting this survey through the “Agency for Children and Families.”
H. E. Ambassador YAMAZAKI Kazuyuki, Permanent Representative of Japan stated,
“The Government of Japan and the Children and Families Agency will carefully consider how best to utilize the valuable evidence presented in this report to inform future policymaking.”

【江戸川大学で特別講義を行いました】

6月26日、 駐日事務所の上野ふようが、 #江戸川大学 こどもコミュニケーション学科の今村麻子准教授が担当する「保育原理」の授業で特別講義を行いました。
講義では、女性器切除（ ）、児童婚、妊産婦死亡など、世界の女性・少女が直面する課題や、その解決に向けたUNFPAの取り組みについて紹介しました。

講義後には、
「日本では当たり前だと思っていたことが、世界では当たり前ではないことを知った」
「保育者を目指す者として、この学びを忘れずにいたい」
といった感想が寄せられ、世界の女性・少女が直面する課題を自分自身の問題として考える機会となったようです。

Special Lecture at Edogawa University

On June 26, Fuyo Ueno from UNFPA Tokyo Representation Office delivered a special lecture in the Principles of Early Childhood Education course taught by Associate Professor Asako Imamura of the Department of Child Communication, Edogawa University.

The lecture highlighted the challenges faced by women and girls around the world—including female ge***al mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and preventable maternal deaths—and introduced UNFPA's efforts to address these issues.

Following the lecture, students shared reflections such as, "I realized that what we take for granted in Japan is not the reality everywhere," and "As a future childcare professional, I want to carry these lessons with me." The session encouraged students to reflect on the challenges facing women and girls around the world and consider how they can contribute to addressing these issues.

6月19日は「紛争における性的暴力根絶のための国際デー」。
紛争下にある、あまりにも多くの女性や少女たちの危機が見過ごされています。

例えばコンゴ民主共和国。
武装集団による攻撃が激化する中、この1年間で女性や少女に対する性的暴力が激増。長期にわたり監禁され、繰り返しの暴行を受ける性的奴隷の事例も確認されています。

紛争下の性的暴力およびジェンダーに基づく暴力を終わらせるには、予防・保護サービスを強化するための行動と投資が求められます。
危機に瀕している女性や少女たちへの支援の灯を、消してはなりません。

19 June is International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.
Women and girls living in crisis zones are too often overlooked, at a time when they are at their most vulnerable.

For instance, women and girls in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have endured a dramatic surge in sexual violence over the last year, as armed groups ramp up their assault on civilians. Sexual slavery cases in which women and girls are held in prolonged captivity and subjected to repeated assault are also reported.

Ending sexual and gender-based violence in conflict demands action and investment to strengthen prevention and protection services. We must not let the lights go out on women and girls in crisis.
