What started as a small circle of familiar faces has now grown into something truly special ❤️

Today, we warmly welcomed four new Sri Lankan master’s students to our community, and with them, our little group has grown into a beautiful family of 25. What makes this journey even more meaningful is not just the numbers, but the stories behind each person.

We come from different universities, different hometowns across Sri Lanka, and different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Each of us carries unique dreams, struggles, and aspirations. Yet somehow, miles away from home, in a foreign land, we’ve found something deeply comforting in each other; a sense of belonging.

This is more than just a group. It’s a place where laughter is shared, where support is always within reach, where festivals feel like home again, and where no one feels alone. From casual meetups to meaningful conversations, from helping hands to unforgettable memories, we are building something that truly feels like family.

To our new members, welcome to this journey ❤️ You are now part of something that goes beyond friendships, a home away from home.

Here’s to growing together, supporting each other, and creating countless memories in the years ahead 🇱🇰✨

Until we meet again…

On the 16th of March 2026, the Sri Lankan community at Hokkaido University gathered to bid farewell to one of our most beloved members, Dr. Mohomed Zayan and his family.

From the days when our community was just a handful of individuals to now nearly 20 strong, Zayan has been a central pillar in bringing us all together. Serving as our president for two years, he was not just a leader, but the heart that connected us all, across cultures, religions, and backgrounds, into one family.

His kindness, humility, and selflessness touched every one of us. He was always there, without hesitation, to support, guide, and uplift others. Together with his wife, they created a warmth that made Sapporo feel like home for many of us.

The farewell was filled with laughter, memories, and tears, a true reflection of the impact he has had on our lives.

While we are saddened to see him leave, we are incredibly proud and happy that he will continue his academic journey in Sri Lanka as a lecturer, strengthening the bridge between Sri Lanka and Japan through collaboration and research.

You will always remain a part of this family.

We did it! 🇱🇰✨

From June 6th to 8th, the Sri Lankan student community at Hokkaido University, along with our families, came together to proudly host a Sri Lankan food stall — “Sri Lankan Delicacies スリランカの美味しさ” — at the 67th Annual Hokkaido University Festival (第67回北大祭 Hokudaisai). 🎉

Thanks to the amazing teamwork and dedication of everyone involved, we pulled it off successfully — despite our busy schedules! 🙌

Our dishes and the freely served Ceylon tea were a big hit among both Japanese and international visitors. 🍛☕ Many stopped by not just to enjoy the flavors but also to learn about our vibrant Sri Lankan culture.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, effort, and energy to make this happen. We're so happy we could bring a taste of Sri Lanka to Hokudaisai! ❤️🌍
