5月22日（金）、東松戸地域館にて「英語で楽しむ！読み聞かせ会」を開催しました✨📖

まずは、姉妹都市であるオーストラリア・ホワイトホース市から届いた特別な絵本『ポスおばあちゃんのまほう』からスタート！私が英語で読み、その後に日本語の訳を添えて、みんなで物語の世界を楽しみました。
続いて、『ねえ、どれがいい?』という参加型の絵本にも挑戦しました。絵本に出てくるおかしなハプニングに対して、「自分ならどれがいい？」と子どもたちが選ぶスタイルで、会場は笑い声に包まれて、とても盛り上がりました！

何より印象的だったのは、子どもたちが自信たっぷりに英語の単語を使っていた姿です。英語が初めての方も、大人の方も、みんなで和やかなひとときを過ごすことができました。

これからも、楽しい絵本を通じた読み聞かせイベントを計画していきたいと思います。次回の開催もどうぞお楽しみに！

On Friday, May 22nd, I held an "English Storytime" session at the Higashimatsudo Regional Library.
We started with a special picture book sent from our sister city, Whitehorse (Australia), titled "Possum Magic." I read the story in English and then read aloud the Japanese translation, and we all had fun becoming immersed in the book’s world. Next, we tried an interactive book called "Would You Rather…" The children got to choose which of the funny predicaments shown in the book was their favorite, and the room was filled with laughter and excitement.

Also, I was very impressed by how confidently the children all knew their English vocabulary! Everyone, from English beginners to adults, was able to spend a wonderful and relaxed time together.

I look forward to planning more storytime events with fun picture books in the future. Please look forward to the next one!

松戸市ｘホワイトホース市姉妹都市提携55周年記念および第21回グリーン・ツリー・デー（樹の日）

令和8年5月12日（火）、松戸市立馬橋北小学校にて、松戸市とオーストラリア・ホワイトホース市の姉妹都市提携55周年を記念する「第2１回グリーン・ツリー・デー」が開催されました。

松戸隆政市長と渋谷剛士議長が同校6年生とともに、オーストラリア原産のブラシの木の記念植樹を行いました。同日、ホワイトホース市でも「ザ・ラウンド」という舞台芸術センターの近くに日本の桜の木が植えられ、在メルボルン日本国総領事古谷徳郎様も参加されました。

植樹式後には、同校の体育館にてオーストラリア・ホワイトホース市の紹介プレゼンテーションが行われ、松戸市の松戸隆政市長とホワイトホース市のカースティン・ラングフォード市長によるオンライン会談も実施されました。そして、同校6年生代表4名が、カースティン・ラングフォード市長に対して、オーストラリアでの給食、通学方法、学校の長い休みなどについて英語で質問し、市長からの質問にも答えるなど、充実した交流の時間となりました。

最後には、同校6年生による合唱が行われ、オンラインながらも元気な歌声がホワイトホース市に届きました。

両市の友好関係がますます深まり、子どもたちにとって異文化理解や国際交流をさらに広げる貴重な機会となることを願っています。

The 55th Anniversary of the Matsudo-Whitehorse Sister City Relationship and the 21st Annual Green Tree Day

On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the 21 annual “Green Tree Day” (tree-planting ceremony) was held at Matsudo Municipal Mabashi Kita Elementary School to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the sister city partnership between Matsudo City and Whitehorse City, Australia.

During the event, Mayor Takamasa Matsudo and Matsudo City Council Chairperson Tsuyoshi Shibuya joined the school’s sixth-grade students in planting a bottlebrush tree, a species native to Australia. On the same day in Whitehorse City, a Japanese cherry blossom tree was planted near “The Round,” a performing arts center, with the attendance of Mr. Tokuro Furuya, Consul-General of Japan in Melbourne.

Following the tree-planting ceremony, a presentation introducing Australia and Whitehorse City was held in the school gymnasium. A virtual meeting was also conducted between Mayor Takamasa Matsudo and Mayor Kirsten Langford. In addition, four sixth-grade student representatives asked Mayor Kirsten Langford questions in English about school lunches, ways of commuting to school, and long school holidays in Australia. The students also responded to questions from the mayor, making it a meaningful and engaging cultural exchange.

At the end of the event, there was a song performance by the sixth-grade students, and although it was virtual, their energetic singing reached all the way to Whitehorse City.

Through this event, we hope the friendship between the two cities will continue to grow stronger, and the children had a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of different cultures and international exchange.

5月の「野の花カフェ」は、夜の開催です。
ゴールデンウイークも終わり、季節は春から夏に向かって日も長くなってきました。
昼間なかなかゆっくりする時間がない、働いていて夜の方が出かけやすいという方もぜひご利用ください。
お楽しみ企画は、「インド木版スタンプの巾着ポーチ作り（当日先着30人）」。

姉妹都市提携55周年記念 🤝 市役所本館前花壇のデザイン ❤️ (English below)

1971（昭和46）年5月12日、松戸市とオーストラリア・ホワイトホース市（旧ボックスヒル市）は姉妹都市提携を結びました。それ以降、両市は教育・文化など幅広い分野で市民同士の交流を深めてきました。

令和8年度は姉妹都市提携55周年を記念し、市役所本館前の花壇を「55」と「コアラ」をデザインしています。

期間：令和8年6月6日（土）まで

市役所にお立ち寄りの際には、ぜひご覧ください。

Commemorating the 55th Anniversary of the Sister City Partnership 🤝 Designed Flower Beds in Front of City Hall Main Building

On May 12, 1971, Matsudo City and the City of Whitehorse, Australia (formerly Box Hill City) established a sister city partnership. Since then, the two cities have deepened exchanges among their citizens across a wide range of fields, including education and culture.

To commemorate the 55th anniversary in 2026, the flower beds in front of the City Hall main building have been designed with the number “55” and a koala.

Please stop by and take a look when you visit the city hall.

The "Matsudo MORIHIRO Festa - The Kids Kingdom (Kodomo-no-Okoku)" is an always popular event that attracts nearly 20,000 visitors each time!
