Kyōyaki 京焼 is the name given to pottery made in Kyoto, while Kiyomizuyaki originally referred to pieces crafted along the historic Gojōzaka road leading up to Kiyomizu Temple. Today, these two names are often used together to describe Kyoto’s rich ceramic tradition.

But Kyōyaki is more than just pottery.
Unlike mass-produced ceramics, each piece carries the spirit of its maker.

Rooted in Kyoto’s long-standing artistic culture, Kyōyaki continues to stand at the heart of Japan’s ceramic heritage - where tradition meets personal expression in every detail.

Our Japanese Tea Foundation Courses offer a clear and practical introduction to the world of Japanese tea.

During the course you will learn about tea history, production, and the main types of Japanese tea. It also includes hands-on preparation of teas such as matcha, sencha, and hojicha, as well as guidance on how to store them properly.

It is a great starting point if you would like to build a solid foundation and feel more confident engaging with Japanese tea.

Last month a very nice Senchadō event took place in .
Japanese Tea Ambassador Junko Kurita led two beautiful workshops and temae demostration while the organiser of the event, Utako Nakamori of prepared traditional wagashi to pair with the tea.

Originally from Shizuoka and now based in Hungary, Kurita-sensei has long shared her passion for Japanese tea around the world. She first fell in love with Spain while walking the Camino de Santiago - carrying her tea set and sharing tea along the way. Returning to introduce Senchadō felt especially meaningful.
