🌍 From Uganda & Burundi | Handmade Bookmarks, Two Countries, One Idea
We have something to share — and it comes in twos. 🎉
In Uganda, our trainee Gladys and her fellow trainees have been hard at work crafting handmade bookmarks from vibrant African fabric. From selecting the fabric, to the making process, to the finished product — every step carried intention and care.
In Burundi, the same idea took root independently. What started as work-in-progress has now become a beautiful set of completed African-style bookmarks.
Two country programs. Two groups of trainees. One shared craft — born in different places, made with the same hands-on spirit.
We love moments like this, when something small reminds us that the skills being built in our vocational training programs go far beyond the practical. They carry culture, creativity, and pride.

🌱 From Waste to Warmth: Burundi's Briquette Cooperative is Growing
Since 2015, our work in Burundi has focused on helping conflict survivors and vulnerable community members — single mothers, street children, and unemployed youth — build lives of dignity through vocational training.
In 2024, we launched something new: a briquette-making cooperative that transforms discarded maize cobs into charcoal. What was once unused agricultural waste is now a local fuel source — and a livelihood.
The road wasn't easy at first. Low awareness meant few customers. But the team pushed through — promoting door-to-door, keeping prices accessible, and staying patient. And then things changed. Rising charcoal costs made briquettes a more affordable alternative, and neighbors started to take notice. Demand is now outpacing production.
What moves us most isn't just the sales figures. It's seeing neighbors line up to sell their maize cobs to the cooperative — some even buying cobs from farther communities to resell at a small profit. People who once lived alongside the cooperative are now part of it. That's the kind of local economy we dreamed of building.
In FY2026, we'll continue following up with the cooperative — talking through whether to bring in electric machinery or expand the team — working side by side to figure out what comes next.

[Urgent Appeal] A Medical Crisis at the Thai-Myanmar Border: Our New Challenge.

Mae La Refugee Camp, the largest shelter on the Thai-Myanmar border, is facing a severe healthcare collapse. Following massive international budget cuts, medical services for 36,000 residents have been stripped to the bone.

The situation is critical:

Medical staff has been reduced by 75%.

Doctors were forced to commute 150km daily just to provide basic care.

Currently, only 2 doctors are struggling to support a population of 36,000.

To address this emergency, Terra Renaissance Thailand (IV-Thailand)—our local office established in May 2025—is launching its first-ever crowdfunding campaign to secure a dedicated doctor for the camp.

Why your support is vital:
This project isn't just about hiring a doctor; it’s about ensuring that a pregnant woman receives care, a child is vaccinated, and chronic illnesses are managed. Without this intervention, the risk of misdiagnosis and disease outbreaks in the camp is dangerously high.

Our Goal:
We urgently need to secure the first six months of a doctor’s salary to begin medical operations by June 2026.

This is the first major milestone for our Thai team. We invite our global community to stand with the people of Mae La and support this life-saving mission.

Today, on , we celebrate the power of learning to change the narrative of conflict.

Terra Renaissance takes "Education for Peace" to where it's needed most:

[Emergency Report from the Democratic Republic of the Congo] 🇨🇬💧

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), specifically in South Kivu, safe water is more than a basic need—it is a lifeline for survival and safety.

As the conflict with M23 intensifies, the healthcare system in the Kalonge district has effectively collapsed. With no government funding and a critical shortage of medicine, hospitals are exhausted. In this harsh environment, preventable waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid are becoming as deadly as the violence itself.

When medicine is scarce, prevention becomes the only cure.

To combat this, Terra Renaissance has been working with local experts to build spring-fed water facilities. Thanks to our supporters in Japan and around the world, we have completed 3 locations in the DRC: 1️⃣ Donato 2️⃣ Muchindigiri 3️⃣ Mihinga

These points now provide safe water to approximately 2,000–3,000 people each.

Protecting Women and Girls In the DRC, fetching water is a high-risk task. Since the escalation of conflict in January, an estimated 10,000 women and girls in Eastern Congo have fallen victim to sexual violence. By placing safe water points directly within the community, we reduce the need for long, dangerous treks into remote areas, protecting the lives and dignity of women and girls.

We are currently working on our 4th facility at Misinga, but the worsening security situation is making construction difficult. We urgently need to secure the remaining funds to complete this vital project.

Happy New Year!

As we begin 2026, our mission remains stronger than ever: to reach those in the most neglected corners of the world, where aid is hardest to deliver.

Starting this week and through next week, we will be sharing a series of urgent reports from South Kivu, DR Congo. 🇨🇬

The situation on the ground is harsh. Since the M23 advance on Bukavu last February, the security situation has remained volatile. In the Kalonge district, where we have worked for 19 years, our project site has become a terrifying frontline.

Our local staff are doing the unthinkable: crossing active combat lines and rebel-held territories just to reach those who have been left behind. They are literally risking their lives to monitor survivors and deliver life-saving supplies.

Why do we stay? Because we are often the only ones left.

Please look through the photos to see the reality of the hospitals we support and the impact your contributions have made so far. But the crisis is far from over.

Since last month, fighting has intensified again. We urgently need your help through our Winter Appeal to keep these life-saving operations running.
