When visiting Kawasaki Daishi Heikenji Temple, be sure to stop by Kadoya Kaiundo (かどや開運堂)! Among the many shops selling daruma dolls along Kawasaki Daishi Nakamise-Dori, it is known as one of the long-established stores.

Inside, the shop is filled with a wide variety of daruma dolls for good fortune. Red is the traditional colour of daruma dolls. Representing fire, it is said to symbolise burning away evil and bringing vitality. Just as flames rise upwards, the colour also represents rising good fortune🔥

Daruma dolls used for making wishes are traditionally displayed on a household shrine, in a tokonoma alcove, or in a high, clearly visible place. It is considered auspicious to position them facing south or east.

Alongside daruma dolls, you will find a variety of other good-luck items, including kumade (decorative rakes to “rake in” good fortune), edanarikin (decorative branches symbolising prosperity), protective arrows to ward off evil, prayer beads, and natural stone products✨
