Today we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our sandwich making and distribution for our Friends in Need. We had difficulties getting bread on time to make sandwiches. We thank all our wonderful parent and student volunteers who take time to support those in need. We hope this is an isolated incident and we keep in our thoughts our Friends in Need in Kannai.

If you would like to be a parent or student volunteer, talk to a member of the SMCC.

Thank you to our amazing parents for shopping and delivering the sandwiches, and to the Chun family for sponsoring the meal. ❤️
🌧️ Rain or shine, kindness goes on. ❤
Earlier in the day, a student asked, “Will we still go in this weather?”
“Yes. They always need us.”
Despite the pouring rain, people waited over an hour to meet our students at the station. A powerful lesson in compassion, kindness, and gratitude.
Sandwiches, onigiri, and cup noodles may seem simple, but they give our students the opportunity to make a difference and appreciate the blessings in their own lives.

A huge thank you to the Yanagida family for sponsoring this week’s meals!

This week we gave lots of oshibori (the paper towels) and toiletries to our Friends in Need who were happy to see us after days of heavy rain and difficult circumstances for those who have housing insecurity. We always can donate disposable shavers and cream, toothbrushes and paste and creams so if you have any, we will gladly pass them on!

We have new students joining us in making sandwiches and new students coming to help out on Tuesday evenings. We hope to welcome new parents to support the work we do at SMCC. Let us know if you can help us help others!

Yesterday we spent time with our Friends in Need bringing them food and water bottles to help them through the humid day. For many of the students it was their first time coming to help out and it is always positive to discuss after what they find surprising. One of our students was impressed with the communities that form and how people even in difficult circumstances make sure to help their buddies.

On Tuesday we re-commenced our Friends in Need program where every Tuesday we meet people who face housing and food insecurity. We provide snacks, toiletries and friendship. Our Friends were happy to see us back after the summer and our students were happy to begin the school year helping those in need.

Monday 15 June marked the start of the long awaited, week-long Habitat for Humanity trip in Siem Reap for ten Grade 10 and 11 students, accompanied by Ms. Cooney and Mr. Crespy.

Before beginning construction, the Habitat Team had the opportunity to meet the family for whom they would be building a home: a widow and her six children who have faced significant hardships. Despite the challenges she has endured, the future new homeowner worked alongside the team throughout the day as they began building the home that will provide a brighter future for her family.

This June, 10 Saint Maur students will travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia with Habitat for Humanity.

Working alongside local communities, they will help build a home for a family in need, supporting access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

If you would like to support this meaningful project, donations can be made via the school website. All contributions go directly to the build, with none used to fund the students’ travel.

Our friends and neighbours at Yokohama Christian School are having their Spring Fair this Saturday. So if you have some time and want to enjoy some family-friendly activities, pop in to enjoy their event; just like they support and encourage our events.

The weather was cold, windy and rainy on Tuesday but our Friends in Need still rely on us to be there to greet them and share sandwiches. We are so grateful to have students, parents and teachers who help every week in every kind of weather
