当日は、その一部として

震災を乗り越え、音楽を通して歩み続ける姿を描いた本作品は、

On behalf of the Miyagi Kenjinkai, we would like to share this special gathering.

A Celebration of Life for Dr. Shinichi Hirokawa, who made significant contributions to the recovery and rebuilding of Miyagi after the 2011 earthquake, will be held as follows.

As part of the program, a 35-minute documentary film, “MARCH,” will be screened.

This film follows the journey of continuing music through the challenges after the disaster, and offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the resilience of Tohoku and Dr. Hirokawa’s enduring legacy.

Admission is free.
(Optional donations will be directed to support children affected by the disaster.)

You are welcome to attend just the film screening as well.

また当時は、私たちの故郷のために、世界各国の皆様、そして南カリフォルニアにある多くの県人会の皆様からも温かいご支援とご寄付をいただき、それを故郷へ届けることができました。宮城、そして東北に心を寄せ、ともに歩んでくださる皆様に心より感謝申し上げます。

昨年12月に行われた招聘事業では、メンバー8名が被災地の視察や防災について学びました。ご縁があり、職員・生徒の84名が犠牲となった石巻市立大川小学校を訪問し、大川地区の復興にご尽力されている代表の只野哲也さんより、大川小学校の現地ガイドをしていただきました。

Fifteen years have passed since Great East Japan Earthquake. Although reconstruction in the regions affected by the earthquake and tsunami has steadily progressed, there are still people in Tohoku who are forced to continue living in evacuation and are unable to return to their hometowns. We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to everyone who was affected by the disaster.

At that time, we received warm support and donations from people around the world, as well as from many prefectural associations in Southern California, and we were able to deliver that support to our hometown. We sincerely express our gratitude to all of you who keep Miyagi and Tohoku in your hearts and continue to walk together with us.

In the invitation program held last December, eight members visited the disaster-affected areas and learned about disaster prevention. We visited Okawa Elementary School in Ishinomaki City, where 84 staff members and students lost their lives, and Mr. Tetsuya Tadano, a representative who has been working tirelessly for the reconstruction of the Okawa district, kindly provided us with an on-site guide to the former Okawa Elementary School.

「作りたて」にこだわった製法。
素材の良さを最大限に引き出す丁寧な工程と、焼きたてならではの食感。
一枚一枚に込められた職人の想いを、五感で感じることができました。

併設の 藤城清治メルヘンサロン と
七夕ミュージアム では、
光と影が織りなす幻想的な世界へ。
震災をテーマにした作品もあり、美しさの中にある祈りと強さが胸に静かに響きました。

まだ訪れたことのない方には、ぜひおすすめしたい場所です。

Invitation Program – Day 2

We began at Kanezaki Sasakama-kan, where we learned about the history and craftsmanship of sasakamaboko and watched artisans at work.

What impressed us most was their dedication to freshness — a production method centered on serving the fish cakes at their just-made best. Each step is carefully handled to preserve flavor and texture, reflecting true craftsmanship.

We also visited Fujishiro Seiji’s Fantasy Salon and the Tanabata Museum, where we were immersed in a magical world of light and shadow. Some works reflected on the Great East Japan Earthquake, quietly yet powerfully touching our hearts.

A place we highly recommend for anyone visiting Sendai.

改めて、方言の美しさと楽しさを感じることができた、素晴らしい県紹介の時間でした。

2026 Officers Installation Ceremony & New Year Gathering

Our president, Ogawa, attended this special event.

The Southern California Kenjinkai Kyogikai plays a vital role in bringing together the Japanese and Japanese American community. This year marked the installation of new officers, and we also took time to honor the dedication and achievements of the former presidents and board members.

One of the annual highlights is the self-introduction by each Kenjinkai president, based on a fun theme.
This year’s theme:
“Introduce a local specialty in your regional dialect.”

President Ogawa began with one line:

“Speaking of Sendai… gyū—?”

And the entire room responded instantly:

“—tan!!!” 👏🤣

Of course — gyūtan (beef tongue), the famous specialty of Sendai!
At this point, it needs no explanation ✨

It was such a wonderful moment of unity and shared pride.

Some presidents were not born in Japan, and a few even contacted their prefectural offices to learn their dialect in advance. It was truly heartwarming to see the effort and to rediscover the beauty and joy of regional dialects.

1月13日、在ロサンゼルス日本国総領事館にて開催された、トモダチ作戦15周年を記念する自衛隊レセプションに、宮城県人会もご招待いただき私 副会長の高梨と新役員(広報)の森で参加してまいりました。

小泉進次郎防衛大臣、トモダチ作戦を率いたパトリック・ウォルシュ元米海軍大将、そして室田幸靖総領事によるご挨拶と鏡開きが行われ、日米の絆の強さを改めて感じる時間となりました。

東日本大震災から15年。
宮城は、多くの尊い命と大切な日常を失いました。
それでも、世界中から差し伸べられた温かい支援、そしてトモダチ作戦による力強い後押しは、今も私たちの心に深く刻まれています。

父が自衛隊員である私にとって、このレセプションは特別な意味を持つものでした。
困難な時に最前線で人々を守り続ける自衛隊の姿。
その誇りと責任の重さを、改めて胸に感じました。

感謝と敬意、そして未来への希望を胸に。
これからも宮城、そして日米の架け橋として歩んでまいります。

またこのような貴重な機会、そして小泉防衛大臣に直接お目にかかる光栄な機会をお与えくださった在ロサンゼルス日本国総領事館に、心より感謝申し上げます。

On January 13, members of the Miyagi Kenjinkai were honored to attend a reception hosted by the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles commemorating the 15th anniversary of Operation Tomodachi and recognizing the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

Remarks were delivered by Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi, Admiral Patrick Walsh (Ret.), who led Operation Tomodachi, and Consul General Kosei Murota.

As someone from Miyagi — one of the regions most deeply affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake — this occasion carried profound meaning. Fifteen years later, we still remember the devastation, but we also remember the extraordinary support and friendship extended through Operation Tomodachi. That kindness remains engraved in our hearts.

On a personal note, my father is a member of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. Seeing the dedication and quiet strength of those who serve — especially in times of crisis — fills me with deep pride and gratitude. Their commitment to protecting lives and communities is something I hold close to my heart.

With remembrance, respect, and hope for the future, we continue to cherish and strengthen the enduring bond between Japan and the United States.

We are sincerely grateful to the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles for providing us with this meaningful opportunity and for the honor of meeting Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi in person.

村井知事にご挨拶をさせていただきました。
米澤名誉（前）会長と知事は長年のご縁があり、
今回は日系5世のお孫さん・キヨちゃんが代表としてご挨拶。
宮城県庁からの温かいご支援に、改めて感謝をお伝えする貴重な機会となりました。

午後は「学び」の時間。
JICA海外移住資料館の小嶋茂先生によるオンライン講義で移民の歴史を学び、
国際交流課・高橋課長による「宮城とは」のセッションでは、
歴史・経済・観光まで、宮城をぐっと深く知ることができました。

宮城を Deep に学んだ2日目。
心も頭も大満足の一日でした。

Invitation Program – Day 2

Day two was a full and enriching day, filled with learning and inspiration.

We began at Kanezaki Sasakama-kan, where we learned about the history and production of sasakamaboko and watched a live demonstration by skilled artisans. The visit also included Fujishiro Seiji’s Fantasy Salon and the Tanabata Museum, both offering a dreamlike world of light and shadow. Some works reflected on the Great East Japan Earthquake, leaving a deep and lasting impression. It is a place highly recommended for first-time visitors.

Next, we paid a courtesy visit to the Miyagi Prefectural Government, where we had the honor of greeting Governor Murai. Representing the group was Kiyo-chan, a fifth-generation Japanese descendant and grandchild of former Honorary Chairman Yonezawa, who has shared a long-standing relationship with the Governor. It was a meaningful opportunity to express our sincere gratitude for the prefecture’s continued support.

In the afternoon, we focused on learning. Professor Shigeru Kojima from the JICA Overseas Migration Museum delivered an online lecture on the history of Japanese immigration. This was followed by a session titled “About Miyagi” led by Mr. Takahashi, Director of the International Relations Division. Within a limited time, we gained deep insights into Miyagi’s history, economy, and tourism.

A truly fulfilling second day, diving deep into Miyagi.

仙台を一望できる 青葉城跡は1601年、戦国武将 伊達政宗 が仙台藩の拠点として築いた城の跡です。
天然の断崖を活かした要害の地で、「不落の城」ともいわれました。

城跡に立つ 伊達政宗公騎馬像 は、独眼竜と呼ばれた政宗の威厳と野心を象徴する存在。
この地から、新しい城下町・仙台がつくられていきました。

併設の 仙台市博物館 では、
政宗の甲冑や書状、文化事業、そして海外との交流まで、
「戦国武将」だけでなく「文化人・政治家」としての政宗の姿を深く知ることができます。

城跡・像・博物館を巡ることで、
伊達政宗が描いた“仙台のはじまり”が立体的に見えてくる一日でした。

Aoba Castle Ruins, Date Masamune Statue & Museum Visit 🏯

Overlooking the city of Sendai, Aoba Castle Ruins mark the site where Date Masamune, a powerful samurai lord, established Sendai as his domain in 1601.
Built on steep cliffs, the castle was known as a nearly impregnable stronghold.

Standing proudly at the ruins is the iconic equestrian statue of Date Masamune, symbolizing his ambition, strength, and vision as the founder of Sendai.

At the nearby Sendai City Museum, visitors can explore Masamune’s armor, letters, cultural projects, and even his international connections—revealing him not only as a warrior, but also as a skilled leader and cultural patron.

招聘事業で第1日目に訪れた仙台市にある歴史ある神社、
大崎八幡宮⛩
創建は平安時代後期といわれ、八幡神を祀る武家の信仰の中心地です。

実はここ、仙台藩初代藩主 伊達政宗 が1607年に 本殿を豪華に再建したんです！
漆塗りや金箔で彩られた社殿は、戦国大名の権威と信仰の象徴✨
仙台城からも近く、藩の安泰を祈る場所としても大切にされました。

皆さんは 神社でどのように参拝するかご存知ですか？ ⛩💡
基本の参拝方法はこちら：
1️⃣ 手水舎（ちょうずや）で手と口を清める
2️⃣ 鳥居をくぐって神殿へ進む

Located in Sendai, Ōsaki Hachiman Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dating back to the late Heian period, dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war ⛩, that we visited for Day 1 for Miyagi Invitation Project.

Did you know? The shrine’s main hall was rebuilt in 1607 by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai Domain!
Adorned with lacquer and gold leaf, the hall reflects the power and faith of a legendary samurai lord ✨
It’s close to Sendai Castle and served as a spiritual heart for the domain’s peace and prosperity.

Do you know how to properly visit and pray at a Shinto shrine? ⛩💡
Here’s a simple guide:
1️⃣ Wash your hands and rinse your mouth at the purification fountain (temizuya)
2️⃣ Walk through the torii gate toward the main hall
3️⃣ Toss a coin, bow twice, clap twice, then bow once more
4️⃣ Make a silent wish or prayer in your heart

📸 Today, the main hall is a National Treasure, and the shrine’s treasures make it a must-visit for history and culture lovers.
