A MESSAGE FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, DAREN AFSHAR:

One Young World Japan wants to thank the hundreds of young people passionate enough to apply for participation at One Young World Cape Town this year!

Every year, the number of participants grows and we are thankful that our platform awareness continues to grow in kind. Our impact is real and we are confident that One Young World Tokyo 2027 will have a massive turnout, as well as an impressive impact on leadership in Japan.

We have noticed a few things this year that we would like to share with the community:

1. Over 70% of this year's applicants did not read the instructions and, as a result, were not able to be considered for inclusion.
2. Over 50% did not submit a video essay.
3. Around 20% made grammatical or spelling errors somewhere in their application.
and
4. More and more applicants are waiting until the last minute, with over 40 applicants responding 1 minute before the deadline this year.

Leadership is not just about vision or inspiration. It is also about planning and attention to detail. We certainly hope that anyone planning to apply for One Young World in the future slows down to pay attention to those details. We certainly do.

Executive Director, OYWJ

One Young World (OYW) Japan is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Yosuke Nagai, Founder and CEO of Accept International, as our newest Advisor.

As a distinguished One Young World Ambassador, Yosuke has long exemplified the core values of our global network. His groundbreaking work with Accept International—focusing on the rehabilitation and reintegration of former violent extremists and youth in conflict zones—demonstrates the profound impact Japan’s young leaders can achieve on the world stage.

Mr. Nagai’s transition into an advisory role marks an exciting chapter for our Japan platform. He brings an unmatched depth of on-the-ground experience, a rigorous commitment to global peace and security, and a visionary approach to youth empowerment. His unique expertise will provide invaluable guidance and a fresh perspective as we expand the reach and impact of the One Young World Japan platform, fostering the next generation of Japanese changemakers.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Mr. Yosuke Nagai as we work together to drive positive, sustainable change across Japan and the world.
