Ever harvested an ingredient served in Japanese fine dining?

Most travelers visit Japan to eat amazing food.
But in Akita, you can do something even more memorable — harvest one yourself.

👉 Applications are now available via the Visit Shirakami website.

This summer, step aboard a small wooden boat and experience junsai harvesting in the peaceful countryside of northern Japan.

Junsai (watershield) is a rare aquatic plant prized in traditional Japanese cuisine. Its young shoots are coated in a naturally silky jelly, creating a refreshing texture that has been enjoyed in seasonal dishes for centuries.

Guided by local farmers, you'll learn how to pick junsai directly from the pond, just as generations of residents have done before. After harvesting, you'll even get to taste it the traditional way.

🎎 A Must-See Traditional Festival in Akita This Weekend 🎎
Calling all lovers of local Japanese festivals and cultural photography!

One of the few festivals in Japan centered around brides, the Yomemi Festival, will take place on Saturday, May 23 in Noshiro City, Akita Prefecture.

During the festival, women dressed in beautiful traditional bridal kimono visit the shrine to pray for happiness, prosperity, and a blessed future. The entire venue becomes wrapped in a charming and nostalgic Japanese atmosphere.

Because it’s such a rare opportunity to see so many brides in traditional attire gathered together at once, the festival has become a favorite event for photographers.

This year, around 16 bridal groups are expected to participate, making the event even more spectacular and photogenic than usual 😤

If you love local Japanese festivals or traditional Japanese photography, this is a perfect chance to experience a unique cultural event in Akita 📸
