Railway fans, don’t miss this! A special 90th Anniversary collectible from Japan’s scenic Gono Line 🚃

The Gono Line, one of Japan’s most breathtaking local railways, is celebrating its 90th anniversary since the entire line opened in 2026! 🎉

To mark this milestone, JR East has released a limited-edition “Gono Line 90th Anniversary Station Ticket Collection.”

This special set includes:

1. A commemorative display folder
2. 16 retro-style cardboard station admission tickets from the stations served by the iconic Resort Shirakami sightseeing train

For railway collectors, these are more than just tickets.

The thick cardboard-style tickets are a nostalgic reminder of Japan’s National Railways era, when this traditional ticket format was widely used. Today, they are rarely seen in everyday travel — making special releases like this highly sought after by railway enthusiasts.

Limited to just 1,000 sets, this collection is a unique way to celebrate 90 years of the Gono Line while preserving a piece of Japan’s railway history.

🌼 Still looking for weekend plans?

Whether you're traveling through Japan or already call Japan home, this is the perfect time to experience one of Shirakami Sanchi's most spectacular summer landscapes.

The Nikkokisuge (Daylily) fields are now in full bloom, painting the highland wetlands in brilliant shades of yellow. It's one of those breathtaking seasonal sights that only lasts for a short time each year.

Just 70 minutes by air from Tokyo, followed by about 1 hour from 大館能代空港ターミナルビル/Odate-Noshiro Airport Terminal , you'll enjoy a scenic drive through peaceful countryside before reaching the trailhead of Fujisato Komagatake. From there, it's only about a 15-minute walk to the wetlands.

There are three boardwalk areas to explore. While many visitors turn back after the first section, we highly recommend continuing on—the scenery becomes more spectacular with every step.

💡 Before You Go
🚗 The mountain road to the trailhead is narrow, so please drive slowly and carefully.
🐻 Stop by Mori-no-Eki( 白神山地森のえき ) in Fujisato to rent a bear bell before heading into the mountains.
💧 You can also pick up locally sourced Shirakami Spring Water and even an original reusable water bottle there. Be sure to bring plenty of water for your walk!

Summer in Shirakami is short—don't miss this unforgettable sea of golden flowers. 🌼✨
