《佐比内金山太鼓》
佐比内地区に昔実在した産金の歴史を後世に伝えることを目的に、佐比内小学校を改築した1987年に創設された。産金が行われていた当時の華やかな様子、過酷な作業の様子を「和太鼓」の曲で表現している。当初は小学生を対象とした文化活動だったが、現在体外演奏活動を中心とする「若衆」をはじめ、佐比内保育所、佐比内地区の中学生、親子のグループ、高齢者など地域全体で和太鼓を楽しみながら伝承している。
キャッチフレーズは「歴史を太鼓にのせて活ある里づくり」
チームはそれぞれの活動を行っているが、全チーム約250人が参加する地域の祭り「金山祭」は1989年から毎年8月14日に行っている。
「若衆」は1年に約50回、岩手県内を中心にお祭りやイベント、自主公演などで演奏活動を行っている。メンバーは佐比内地区民を中心に、体外活動での演奏を見て参加を希望する人も集まってくる。
海外での演
奏はこれまでに、2002年5月「9-11同時多発テロ犠牲者を悼みテロのない世界平和を訴える」ニューヨーク和太鼓コンサート2002への参加。2006年3月紫波町の姉妹都市であるオーストラリア・クィーンズランド洲スタンソープ市で開催された「Apple and Grape Harvest Festival 2006」の2回行っている。
《佐比内地区》
佐比内は紫波町の南東部にある、辺りを山々に囲まれた農村地域で、現在、約350世帯、1000人が暮らす紫波町の中でも小さな地域。
佐比内には昔、金鉱があり、今から約400年前、金塊を求めて日本各地から人が集まっていた。当時は約13,000人、今の約120倍の人が住んでいたと言われている。
The Sahinai community is proud of its working class roots as a gold mining town, and in 1987 we created the Kinzan drum group as an exciting way to pass this heritage on to our children. What started as cultural activities for elementary school students expanded throughout the community, encompassing preschoolers, junior high school students, families, and senior citizens--everyone working to preserve our history through the excitement of drums. Most of us are from Sahinai, but some of us live elsewhere but joined after seeing a performance. Every year since 1989 , we have a big concert on August 14th called the Kinzan Festival. The main group is the “Wakashu” or “Group of Lads.” We usually have about 50 performances a year. Some of our most memorable performances have been a concert in New York City in May 2002, after the September 11 attacks, and a performance at Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival in 2006. Our mission statement: “Using drums to build a vibrant community steeped in history.”
Sahinai is in southeast part of Shiwa. Surrounded by mountains and hills, it is the smallest of Shiwa’s nine districts with about 1,000 residents. Over 400 years ago, there were gold mines, and people came from all over the country to work the mines.
