We’re pleased to introduce one of our speakers for the INWA Nordic Walking Convention 2026 in Japan.
Takayuki Kawamura, Ph.D., is a Master Instructor with the Japan Nordic Fitness Association, with specialist expertise in cardiac rehabilitation and community-based health promotion.
Japan is often described as a living lab for healthy longevity. It is a super-ageing society where frailty, dementia risk and social isolation are everyday community challenges. At the same time, life-course issues such as childhood obesity, declining physical fitness, and underweight in some young women are part of the wider health picture.
In this session, Dr. Kawamura will share a simple, practical playbook for INWA Nordic Walking instructors.
The INWA 10 Step Method™ remains unchanged. What adapts is how it is delivered.
He will share what has worked in Japan, and what has not, particularly when working with older adults.
After this session, you will be able to:
• Summarise Japan’s key health and social challenges and understand where Nordic Walking fits
• Set up an older-adult Nordic Walking circle using a clear checklist covering recruitment, onboarding, safety, progression, and sustainability
