اختُتمت في العاصمة القاهرة اليوم، فعاليات برنامج التدريب الإقليمي حول ترابط المياه والطاقة والغذاء والنظم البيئية (WEFE Nexus)، الذي نظمته INWRDAM بالشراكة مع وزارة الموارد المائية والري، وبتنفيذ من معهد مياه الصرف التابع لـ المركز القومي لبحوث المياه، وبدعم من الوكالة السويدية للتنمية الدولية والاتحاد من أجل المتوسط.

وشهد حفل الختام حضور معالي الأستاذ الدكتور هاني سويلم وزير الموارد المائية والري، وسعادة السيد عارف غريب رئيس قطاع مياه النيل، والدكتور أيمن السعدي نائب رئيس المركز القومي لبحوث المياه، والدكتور محمد شعبان رئيس معهد مياه الصرف.

على مدار أسبوعين، شكّل البرنامج منصة تفاعلية متميزة جمعت مشاركين من مصر والى جانب مشاركين من خمس دول عربية وهي سوريا ولبنان والمغرب والجزائر وتونس، حيث تم تعزيز الفهم المتكامل لترابط قطاعات المياه والطاقة والغذاء والنظم البيئية بما يخدم الظروف المحلية في جمهورية مصر العربية.

وتوّجت فعاليات البرنامج بحضور معالي الوزير والاشادة بأهمية التدريب وأهميتة في بناء القدرات وتطوير الكفاءات للكوادر الفنية المختلفة التابعة للوزارة وذلك لمواجهة التحديات المائية والبيئية الراهنة.

ويأتي هذا البرنامج تأكيداً على أهمية الشراكات الإقليمية والدولية في دعم الحلول المتكاملة والمستدامة، وتعزيز التعاون لمواجهة التحديات المشتركة في المنطقة.

وقد تفضل معالي الوزير بتوزيع الشهادات على المتدربين وبحضور سعادة الدكتور مروان الرقاد المدير التنفيذي للشبكة الاسلامية لتنمية وادارة مصادر المياه وأبدى المشاركين شكرهم وتقديرهم للوزارة والشبكة على تقديم هذا البرنامج الاحترافي الذي لاقى استحسانهم وزودهم بالمعرفة النظرية والعملية للتوسع في توظيف الترابط بين المياه والطاقة والغذاء والنظم البيئية في مختلف القطاعات المائية في جمهورية مصر العربية.

The regional training program on the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystems Nexus (WEFE Nexus), organized by INWRDAM in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, implemented by the Drainage Research Institute of the National Water Research Center, and supported by Sida and the Union for the Mediterranean, concluded today in Cairo.

The closing ceremony was attended by H.E. Prof. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation; Mr. Aref Gharib, Head of the Nile Water Sector; Dr. Ayman El Saadi, Vice President of the National Water Research Center; and Dr. Mohamed Shaaban, Head of the Drainage Research Institute.

Over the course of two weeks, the program served as a distinguished interactive platform, bringing together participants from Egypt alongside participants from five Arab countries—Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. The program strengthened integrated understanding of the interlinkages between water, energy, food, and ecosystems in a manner tailored to local conditions in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The program concluded with the presence of H.E. Sweilam, who commended the importance of the training in building capacities and enhancing the competencies of various technical staff within the Ministry to address current water and environmental challenges.

This program reaffirms the importance of regional and international partnerships in supporting integrated and sustainable solutions, and in fostering cooperation to address shared challenges across the region.

H.E. Sweilam also honored the trainees by awarding certificates, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Marwan Al-Raggad, Executive Director of INWRDAM. Participants expressed their sincere appreciation to the Ministry and INWRDAM for delivering this high-quality program, which was well received and provided them with both theoretical and practical knowledge to further apply the WEFE Nexus approach across different water-related sectors in Egypt.

أطلقت الشبكة الإسلامية لتنمية وإدارة مصادر المياه (INWRDAM) يوم أمس فعاليات برنامج التدريب الإقليمي حول ترابط المياه والطاقة والغذاء النظام البيئي (WEFE Nexus) في القاهرة – جمهورية مصر العربية، بالشراكة الوثيقة مع وزارة الموارد المائية والري في جمهورية مصر العربية، وبتنفيذ من معهد بحوث الصرف التابع للمركز القومي لبحوث المياه.
ويستهدف البرنامج مجموعة من المشاركين الذين تم اختيارهم من مختلف المراكز والمعاهد التابعة للوزارة، إلى جانب مشاركين من خمسة دول عربية وهي سوريا ولبنان والمغرب والجزائر وتونس ، مما يعزز تبادل الخبرات والمعرفة على المستويين الوطني والإقليمي.
شهد اليوم الأول انطلاقة مميزة، حيث تضمن جلسة افتتاحية للتعريف بالبرنامج وأهدافه، إلى جانب تقديم مفهوم ترابط المياه والطاقة والغذاء والنظام البيئي (WEFE Nexus) وأهميته في تحقيق الاستدامة. كما تم استعراض مبادئ الإدارة المتكاملة للموارد، وتنفيذ أنشطة تفاعلية لتعزيز فهم المشاركين للعلاقات المتداخلة بين القطاعات المختلفة.

INWRDAM launched yesterday the activities of the regional training program on the WEFE Nexus in Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt, in close partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and implemented by the Drainage Research Institute of the National Water Research Center.

The program targets a group of participants selected from various centers and institutes affiliated with the Ministry, in addition to participants from five Arab countries: Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. This contributes to enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise at both national and regional levels.

The first day witnessed a strong and engaging start, featuring an opening session introducing the program and its objectives, along with a presentation of the WEFE Nexus concept and its importance in achieving sustainability. The day also included an overview of integrated resource management principles, as well as interactive activities aimed at strengthening participants’ understanding of the interlinkages between different sectors.

The program will continue over a period of two weeks and has been designed to combine both theoretical and practical training, thereby enhancing participants’ capacities to develop integrated and sustainable solutions to regional challenges.

شاهدوا حلول فيضانات صحراء الأردن من السماء.

من الأعلى، تبدو الصحراء جافة وصامتة…
لكن خلال ساعات، تتحول الأمطار الغزيرة إلى سيول سريعة تجتاح الأرض، وتهدد المدن والطرق وسبل العيش.

هذه المياه ليست مشكلة يجب التخلص منها،
بل مورد يجب إدارته بحكمة.

في الأزرق، لم نواجه السيل بالقوة، بل عملنا مع الطبيعة.
قمنا بانشاء سدود تسريبية لإبطاء الجريان، وتوجيه المياه، ومراعاة احتياجات المناطق الواقعة في المصب، فتم تقليل مخاطر الفيضانات، وتعزيز تغذية المياه الجوفية، وعودة الحياة إلى المشهد الصحراوي .

هكذا تلتقي العِلم والحلول القائمة على الطبيعة والتخطيط الذكي في صحراء الأردن.

من سيول تهبط من السماء إلى مياه تُحيي الأرض.

From above, the desert looks dry and silent —
yet within hours, intense rain turns it into fast-moving floods that threaten cities, roads, and livelihoods.

This water is not a problem to remove,
but a resource that must be managed wisely.

In Azraq, we did not fight the flood — we worked with nature.
By slowing the flow, guiding the water, and respecting downstream needs, flood risks were reduced, groundwater was recharged, and life returned to the landscape.

This is how science, nature-based solutions, and smart planning come together in Jordan’s desert.

اختتمنا بكل فخر مشروع تصميم وتنفيذ ممارسات الحصاد المائي وحوار السياسات في الأردن 3Rs بعد تحقيقه لأهدافه بنجاح وتجاوزه لها.

Design and Implementation of Water Harvesting Practices and Policy Dialogue in Jordan Project Closing – Real Impact on the Ground

We proudly marked the successful closing of the Design and Implementation of Water Harvesting Practices and Policy Dialogue in Jordan Project, which not only achieved its targets but went beyond expectations.

What made this event truly special was holding it in the field, allowing everyone to see the real impact on the ground. The closing brought together the local community as the main beneficiary, the Municipality of Azraq, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with the participation of Her Excellency Stella Kloth, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Amman.
A powerful example of how field-based solutions, strong partnerships, and community engagement create lasting impact.

🌧️ شهد الأردن هطولاً مطرياً طال انتظاره — لكن الأمطار الغزيرة تسببت مجدداً بتحديات في عدة مناطق.
أما في الأزرق فكان المشهد مختلفاً.
ومن خلال مشروع 3Rs، قمنا مع شركاؤنا في سلطة وادي الاردن وبلدية الازرق بإنشاء سد مُرشِّح (Leaky Dam) مصنوع من الحجارة البازلتية الطبيعية على بعد 10 كم من المدينة، ليقوم بتخفيف صدمة الفيضان وحماية المجتمع، مع السماح للمياه بالمرور بشكل تدريجي للوصول للمحمية الطبيعية.
ولأن العلم هو أساس الحلول المستدامة ، تعاونا مع معهد اليونسكو للمياه والجامعه الألمانية الاردنية.
بدلاً من اندفاع السيل بشكل مفاجئ ومدمّر نحو محمية الأزرق:
➡️ تباطأ الجريان،
➡️ وتوزعت المياه تدريجياً على مدى ثلاث اسابيع ،
➡️ وتعززت تغذية المياه الجوفية،
➡️ وبدء تكوّن ممر أخضر للموائل الطبيعية بطول 10 كم،
➡️ وتحقق التوازن بين حماية السكان المناطق العليا وتلبية احتياجات المحمية في المناطق المنخفضة.
مثال حقيقي على كيف يمكن لـ الابتكار + الطبيعة تحويل الخطر إلى فرصة في الأردن.

🌧️🇯🇴 Jordan welcomed much-needed rain — but once again, intense storms created challenges in several areas.
In Azraq, the story was different.
Through the 3Rs Project, our nature-based “Leaky Dam”—a simple structure made of natural basalt stones that slows floods while still letting water pass—10 km upstream of the city absorbed the shock of the flash flood and protected the community.
Because science matters, we collaborated with IHE Delft, German Jordan University.
The result:
Instead of a sudden, destructive flood racing toward the Azraq Natural Reserve,
➡️ the flow slowed down,
➡️ the water spread gently over three weeks,
➡️ groundwater was recharged,
➡️ a 10-km green corridor began to form, and
➡️ Upstream protection was balanced with downstream water needs of the Natural Reserve.
A real example of how innovation + nature can turn risk into opportunity for Jordan.

الحصاد المائي لغة عالمية مشتركة : من الأردن إلى فالنسيا في
اسبانيا
سواء في الأزرق أو فالنسيا ،الحصاد المائي هو لغة عالمية توحّد الناس، وتحمي النظم البيئية، وتعزز مستقبلنا المشترك.

بدأت اليوم أعمال الزيارة التدريبية لحوض نهر توريا في إسبانيا ولمدة خمسة أيام، ويشارك فيها عدد من أصحاب العلاقة الأردنيين ضمن مشروع الحوار الوطني للحصاد المائي و بدعم من شريكنا التنموي، سفارة مملكة هولندا في عمّان، وبالتعاون مع معهد IHE Delft للمياه و اكاسيا ووتر.

من "الفيضانات للجفاف" إلى الحلول المعتمدة على الطبيعة واستراتيجياتها، سيتعرّف المشاركون على قصة نهر توريا، الذي كان يهدد فالنسيا بالفيضان، إلى أن تم تحويل مجراه خارج المدينة، وتحويل القناة القديمة إلى حديقة حضرية مدعومة بادارة على مستوى الحوض وانظمة انذار مبكر تعزز المناعة المناخية وتحول خطر الفيضانات لفرصة حقيقية.
كما سيزور الفريق حوض نهر مانزاناريس في مدريد للاطلاع على تجارب الحصاد المائي واستراتيجيات ادارة الجفاف.

INWRDAM launched a study tour to the Turia River Basin in Spain for key Jordanian stakeholders of the 3Rs Project, made possible with the generous support of our development partner, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Amman, and in collaboration with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and Acacia Waters
From “Floods for Drought” strategies to nature-based solutions and urban water retention parks supported by water harvesting and disaster risk reduction, participants will explore how Spain transformed the flood-prone Turia River into a beautiful urban park—enhancing Valencia’s climate resilience andturning flood risk into benefit.
The delegation will also visit the Manzanares river in Madrid to explore water arvesting for flood risk reduction and climate resilience.

نفّذت الشبكة الإسلامية لتنمية وإدارة مصادر المياه، بالتعاون مع معهد اليونسكو للمياه وشركة أكاسيا ووتر، التدريب الرابع والأخير ضمن مشروع “الحوار الوطني لحصاد مياه الامطار” بعنوان “مراقبة وتقييم تدخلات حصاد المياه” خلال الفترة من 5 إلى 9 تشرين الأول 2025.

ركّز التدريب على مراقبة وتقييم تدخلات الحصاد المائي باستخدام تقنيات المراقبة الميدانية، والاستشعار عن بُعد، وتحليل جودة المياه، وتقييم الأثر على التربة والنبات. كما قدّم المشاركون في ختامه عروضاً تطبيقية حول دمج هذه الأساليب في أعمالهم الميدانية لتعزيز استدامة مشاريع الحصاد المائي.

INWRDAM in collaboration with the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education and Acacia Water, conducted the fourth and final training under the project “National Dialogue on Rainwater Harvesting 3R’s”, titled “Monitoring and Evaluation of Water Harvesting Interventions”, from October 5 to 9, 2025.

The training focused on monitoring and evaluating water harvesting interventions through field observation techniques, remote sensing, water quality analysis, and assessing the impact on soil and vegetation. Participants concluded the program by presenting practical applications on how to integrate these methods into their fieldwork to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of water harvesting projects.

وألقى الدكتور الرقاد كلمة رفيعة المستوى تناول فيها الدور المحوري للشبكة في تحقيق رؤية منظمة التعاون الإسلامي للمياه، مؤكدًا أهمية الابتكار والتعاون الاقليمي بين الدول الأعضاء.

Jeddah, October 2025: H.E. Dr. Marwan Alraggad, Executive Director of INWRDAM, participated in the 5th Islamic Conference of Ministers Responsible for Water held in Jeddah under the theme “From Vision to Impact.”
Dr. Alraggad delivered a high-level address highlighting INWRDAM’s pivotal role in achieving the OIC Water Vision, emphasizing innovation, cooperation, and shared progress among member states.
