Wojoud was registered as a non-profit organization in Jordan on June 30, 2013, but its roots stretch back over 15 years, to when co-founders Zaid Abu Ras and Kholoud F***j began collaborating to provide services for underprivileged women and children. Prior to establishing Wojoud, Kholoud F***j spent seven years working on human rights issues in the civil society sector, and Zaid Abu Ras is a local businessman. The two are partners in business and in humanitarian endeavors, to which they have dedicated a great deal of time and money over the years. Through their work, they have developed strong relationships with orphanages and children’s centers in Amman and the surrounding governorates, and have also begun working with other civil society and volunteer organizations in Jordan that focus on marginalized sectors of society. Our Previous Projects

Every Ramadan since 1998, the founders have welcomed orphaned children to their restaurant for a free meal and an evening of dancing, music and games. During Ramadan in 2013, the center also distributed 350 goodwill parcels to poor families and orphans, and used a grant to distribute ‘Zakat al-Fitr’, a charitable donation normally given by Muslims during this holiday. Working in partnership with Al-Yasmeen Center for Children with Down Syndrome, Wojoud ran an initiative to provide summer employment opportunities for young people with the condition, enabling them to integrate better into the local community. Wojoud also collaborated with ‘Al-Watani’, the National Microfinance Bank, to provide school bags and supplies to schoolchildren in the underprivileged region of Al-Jarm in north Jordan, as well as to children at the Al-Yasmeen Center.
