Masar was established in1994 as a regional non-governmental non-profit organisation working mainly in the field of media. The project was support
ed by the EU-Med Media Program. In 1999 Masar, together with Danish, Palestinian and Israeli colleagues, launched Crossing Borders, a regional youth magazine in English for young journalists in Jordan, Israel and Palestine. The project is managed by the Danish NGO Crossing Borders and was initially funded by the Danish government. With the launching and success of Crossing Borders, Masar began to work with youth and on youth issues. We started to involve youth activists in analysing needs of youth in Jordan and the Middle East with the aim of designing projects to address these needs. Therefore, we implemented projects in the fields of democracy education, peace and conflict resolution, human rights, gender, interreligious dialogue, youth employment and entrepreneurship, and environment, which lately has become one of Masar’s prime areas of focus. Besides projects in these fields, Masar has also been engaged in providing consulting and expertise to local, regional and international beneficiaries on matters related to Euro-Med cooperation.
