Symposium on Modern Heritage in the Arab World

-About the Event:
The School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) of the German Jordanian University (GJU) together
with ICOMOS Jordan (International Council on Monuments and Sites of Jordan) are organizing a regional symposium on Modern heritage in the Arab World to be held at the School of Architecture (DARAT OTHMAN BDAIR) in Amman and on line during (October 29-30 2022). This symposium attempts to grant voice to this segment of Arab heritage by focusing on the meaning and essence of the Modern movement; as a major project of cultural change that the whole World had gone through at the turn of the 20th Century with filtrations into the Arab states at different periods. The symposium attempts to investigate the impact of that period/heritage as agents of change and transformation in the Arab World while emphasizing the need to reflect on that heritage and to incorporate it, at least at the level of understanding and critical evaluation, as part of general progression of Arab thought and culture.

- The venue will be the German Lounge at Darat Othman Bdair (SABE: School of Architecture and Built Environment) in Amman. The venue is in the heart of historic Amman with breathtaking views of the different Ammani residential mountains.

ندوة حول تراث الحداثة في العالم العربي

-برعاية: الجامعة الألمانية الأردنية، والمجلس العالمي للمعالم والمواقع (ايكوموس)، ومكتب تراث: استشاريو العمارة والتصميم الحضري
-ينظم قسم هندسة العمارة والعمارة الداخلية في الجامعة الألمانية بالتعاون مع ايكوموس-الأردن (المجلس العالمي للمعالم والمواقع-الأردن) ندوة إقليمية حول تراث الحداثة في العالم العربي. سيعقد هذا الحدث خلال الفترة الواقعة ما بين (التاسع والعشرين والثلاثين من شهر تشرين الأول لعام ٢٠٢٢) في قسم هندسة العمارة والعمارة الداخلية (دارة عثمان بدير) في عمان، كما أنه سيُبث مباشرة عبر الإنترنت.
تحاول هذه الندوة تسليط الضوء على هذا النوع من التراث في العالم العربي من خلال التركيز على معنى وجوهر حركة الحداثة، كونها مشروع تغيير ثقافي رئيسي مر به العالم أجمع في مطلع القرن العشرين، مع انتشاره بتأثيرات متفاوتة في الدول العربية على فترات مختلفة. تحاول هذه الندوة البحث في أثر تلك الفترة /ذلك التراث كونه عامل تغيير وتحول في العالم العربي، كما أنها تؤكد على الحاجة إلى التفكير في هذا التراث وإدراجه -على مستوى الفهم والتقييم النقدي على الأقل- كجزء من التقدم العام للفكر والثقافة العربية.
