خطوة مهمة باتجاه حماية فعالة للطيور البرية في الاردن
🐦 Contributions for Nature Wednesday
This week, we are spotlighting an important contribution from the Jordan BirdWatch Association to the Contributions for Nature platform.
📖 The Red List of Breeding Birds in Jordan (2026) is the first national assessment of extinction risk for breeding bird species in Jordan based on IUCN Red List criteria. Developed by Jordan BirdWatch in cooperation with the Jordan Species Specialist Group and under the auspices of Jordan's Ministry of Environment, the assessment provides a critical foundation for conservation planning and implementation under the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
Key findings include:
🔴 Nearly half (47.5%) of Jordan's breeding bird species are threatened with extinction.
🦅 Raptors are among the most at-risk groups, with an estimated 71% of breeding raptor species threatened and several already extinct at the national level.
🌿 Wetland-dependent species face severe pressures, with an estimated 64% classified as threatened.
⚠️ Habitat loss, illegal hunting, persecution, overgrazing, development, and climate change continue to place significant pressure on Jordan's bird populations.
We commend the الجمعية الاردنية لمراقبة الطيور - Jordan BirdWatch for this valuable contribution and their continued efforts to strengthen biodiversity conservation in Jordan.
