Marking the International , the International Organization for Migration highlighted the importance of family unity, child wellbeing, and ensuring that families affected by displacement and uncertainty have the opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity and stability.
After years of separation and uncertainty, Adam and Rana’s family was finally reunited in Germany through the IOM-facilitated Family Assistance Programme (FAP). For their children, reunification has meant growing up once again with both parents and regaining the sense of stability and belonging that had been lost over the years.
Their story reflects how long separation and difficult living conditions can deeply affect families and children, while reunification can restore stability, belonging and hope for the future.
This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the Family Assistance Programme. Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office since 2016, the programme has supported more than 800,000 beneficiaries across 10 offices over the past decade, helping families navigate complex reunification procedures and begin rebuilding their lives together.
