Treasure Beach Turtle Group Jamaica is a beautiful country with an historically rich multicultural heritage but rarely do you hear about her threatened wildlife resources.

This organization was created to promote education and the conservation of Jamaica's natural resources with emphasis on our local nesting Hawksbill sea turtles Jamaica's wildlife and wild places are being squeezed from all sides. The wealthy want to develop the shoreline by replacing its wild places with resorts that exclude the local people while so many of the less wealthy struggle to squeeze a living out of ever decreasing natural resources. Not all have the luxury of being able to worry about the survival of the fish, turtles or crocodiles but need to concentrate on how to best catch what is left to feed their families and send their kids to school. We want this project and its associated conservation tours to provide employment locally while raising money to fund projects like our turtle nesting surveys. We hope that once conservation ideology and funding start flowing into the community, more people will realize that it is important and financially beneficial for them to at least save some of their natural resources for the future.

One is a lonely number, but it still has value. This hatchling was the only one found in the nest this morning. The hatchling went out to sea safe.

Even though our beaches are not the same after Melissa, our turtles are still coming to nest. It's shows that all hope is not lost. Climate change is having an impact not only on humans but also animals.

Sunday Sea Turtle Fact!

Before baby sea turtles head to the ocean, they have one special tool: a tiny egg tooth called a caruncle that helps them break out of their shell. Then they rest underground for a few days, living off nutrients from their yolk sac before starting their epic adventure.

Here is a little serect you may miss while on the beach. While nesting turtles are very quiet, you may walk pass and not even notice they are there especially at night.

Hi everyone, we appreciate the love and concern that was expressed about our 3 flipper turtle in the previous post. She was assisted in her nesting process and went back to the sea ok as seen in this video. This mother is proof that we are not limited by how others see us but we are limited by our mind set. Thank you once again πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’

Our lady this morning is an example of resilience. She nested with only 3 flippers, her left back flipper is missing ,but she still dug and laid her eggs.

Sea turtles are slow on land because of their shells and flippers, that are best suited for swimming. Wildlife Jamaica WIDECAST - Wider Caribbean Sea Turtle Conservation Network SEE Turtles National Environment & Planning Agency
