National Museum West

National Museum West National Museum West is the National Museum of Jamaica Western Jamaica based branch at the Montego Ba These are exciting times. Who am I? I am glad you asked.

National Museum West (NMW) is embarking on a journey of cultural exploration and renewal in the Western Region. We are seeking to make National Museum West a truly community-based museum that tells the people's history of western Jamaica. It will form an important part of our island-wide network of museums that is National Museum Jamaica. In the coming months, National Museum West will be facilita

ting not only the introduction of new artifacts, but also displaying existing ones. We also invite you to bring some of your family heirlooms and treasures down to the museum - they don't need to be valuable in a financial sense or very old, but they should be filled with the history of your family and your community. The simplest things often tell us so much about the history of our people. I will be keeping you informed about what is happening at the Museum once we are open to the public. Each week we will examine one major artifact and tell you all about its cultural significance and history. I am Alicia, the curator of National Museum West. In a nutshell, my responsibility is to protect, preserve, collect and display the important artifacts that make up the collection of the National Museum West. I am also a native of Montego Bay and a history enthusiast who is really interested in educating others about the rich culture of Western Jamaica. Culture and History should be fun and we aim to make it so. How will we make it fun? We will make your experience at the National Museum fun with our colourful displays and we will create programmes and plans with you in mind. Maybe some of your memories and artifacts will become part of the museum. We will solicit your feedback and provide educational programmes that you want to see. We will provide opportunities to hear from you. Now what are some of the things that you will see at the National Museum West? Well, you will just have to check out our face book page:

A special thank you to the students and teachers from Herbert Morrison Technical High School and Cambridge High School for attending and actively participating in the session. Your enthusiasm for history made event even more meaningful.

We also extend sincere appreciation to our guest speaker, Miss Janeillia Darien, for delivering an excellent and insightful presentation on "The Cuban Revolution." Though National Heroes Day has passed, National Museum West continues to honour the six valiant heroes and our lone heroine, whose courage and vision shaped our nation. Their stories remind us that freedom, resilience, and unity are the true pillars of our heritage.
Let us continue to keep their legacy alive - not just in history books but through our actions, our culture, and our shared pride as Jamaicans.
