The School Intervention Programme (SIP) exists as a vital limb of the Dispute Resolution Foundation (DRF) by supporting the goal of developing a peaceful culture in Jamaica. The SIP does this by identifying at-risk young persons between the ages of 10-18, and provides them with child-friendly Alternative Dispute Resolution services and training. The exemplary Youth Peace Facilitators teach these s

tudents important lessons in: Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, Restorative Justice, Anti-Bullying, Self-Esteem, Peer Pressure, Goal Setting, Emotional Intelligence, Child Rights and Mediation. The core values of the SIP, affirmation, communication, cooperation, respect, confidentiality and neutrality are engraved into the students that are served by the programme. These values have been identified by our competent Youth Programme staff members as vital to any hope of developing a peaceful culture. The School Intervention Programme offers a wide array of services, which includes:
• Sensitization and training in anger management
• Conflict resolution and mediation
• A safe space for children to discuss their feelings.
• Critical thinking sessions that allow students to reflect on the reason(s) for their suspension and learn how to avoid future suspensions.
• Providing support that engages and rehabilitates at-risk youth who come in contact with the law.
• Building the capacity of at-risk children and youth to deal with conflict, anger and behavioural issues.
• Preparing students for long term behaviour change.
