The Ebenezer Home for the Mentally Challenged is a non-profit organization which provides food, clothing, and shelter and therapy
for mentally challenged individuals. Ebenezer Home was the brainchild of “Community of Concerned Citizens of Mandeville”, a civic group that has been engaged since 1988 in community activities aimed at improving the conditions of life of the citizens of Manchester. Sin
ce November 22, 2000, this Home has been specifically addressing problems related to the homeless persons, the mentally challenged and socially challenged citizens of the parish of Manchester and it’s environs. This venture was established through the support of: Food for the Poor, Jamaica Development Fund, The Mandeville Ministers’ Fraternal, The Manchester Parish Council, Churches, The Returned Citizens’ Association and individuals locally and from overseas. Technical staffing and the provision of psychotherapy are offered by the Mental Health Department, Southern Region Health Authority (SRHA) while Management of the Home is provided by a Board of Directors drawn from a cross section of the Mandeville society. The Manchester Parish Council provides a modest monthly subvention. Clients, as the men are called at the Center, are allowed to remain at the Center with the aim of rehabilitating them for reentry into civil society. While at the Center they participate in various rehabilitation programmes. The accommodation is free of charge and they are provided with meals, clothing, medication and counselling. Rehabilitation programmes include chicken rearing, farming, games, psychotherapy and limited outside employment. It should be noted that Ebenezer Rehab Center is a not a government organization but rather a registered Charitable Organization that is voluntarily funded. It has grown from humble beginnings into an excellent example of how a community can provide quality care in a respectful environment to those in our society who cannot help themselves. As such we continue to seek assistance for this humanitarian project from those persons and organizations that are willing to help us to deliver this service. Funds, supplies and expertise are urgently needed for the day to day operation of the Center and for its programme of rehabilitation. We continue to seek your support in cash/kind so that the work started may be sustained. if you’re so minded give us a call at 876 963 3557 to visit or even to volunteer some of your time to co-labour with us. Then together we can experience that old adage..”Service to Humanity is the Best Work of Life”. Cheques should be made payable to: Ebenezer Rehabilitation Center
