The Jamaica Youth Ambassadors Programme (JaYAP) is a National Youth Policy programme focused on the participation and empowerment of young people in Jamaica. These Youth Ambassadors (YAs) are a corps of Jamaican youth between the ages of 18-27 appointed and accredited to represent Jamaica on national and international platforms. The Programme was established in 2000 as a strategy to promote youth
advocacy and participation in decision-making processes. Since its inception, the JaYAP has produced a number of youth leaders, many of whom continue to offer representation on Jamaica’s youth issues at various levels. Youth Ambassadors are committed and passionate about Jamaica and Jamaica’s youth development and are able to represent the views and concerns of young people. As national ambassadors, they are up to date on Jamaican youth issues, situations and positions which may be discussed on national and international platforms. Knowledge areas of YAs include (but are not limited to) Human Trafficking, Climate Change / Environmental Protection, Entrepreneurship, Employment, Youth Advocacy Gender and Human Rights in keeping
