Heard the term "head chip out" in a workshop we facilitated on Tuesday with young people from the HEART/NSTA Trust Boys Town VTC.

It brought this question to mind:

“Can we reduce violence against women without talking about men’s emotional health?”🤔

Why? Why not? To what extent, even? Let us know in the comments.

On May 1, members of the WMW Jamaica team, alongside facilitator Mobafa Baker, facilitated the first of three training sessions utilising 's CAT4GJO tool with participants from the Women’s Resource & Outreach Centre (WROC) and Eve for Life.

The CAT4GJO (Capacity Assessment Tool for Gender Justice Organizations) is designed to support organizations in strengthening their internal systems, accountability practices, and approaches to addressing GBV through evidence-based reflection and action planning.

We’re looking forward to the shared learning, collaboration, and continued commitment to building safer, stronger, and more responsive organizations in the fight against GBV.

We spend May talking about protecting children, creating safe spaces, mental health, discipline, abuse, and helping children speak up. But when the month ends… many of these conversations go quiet.

💬 So what conversation should we continue after Child Month ends?

🏠 What happens in the home?
🧠 Child mental health?
📱 Online safety?
🗣️ Why children stay silent?
👨🏽‍👩🏽‍👧🏾 Parenting & communication?
🏫 Safety at school & in communities?

Grooming doesn’t always look “obvious” at first… that’s the point.

It starts with trust, attention, “special treatment,” and slowly crosses lines that shouldn’t be crossed.

Pay attention to the people surrounding your children. Teach them boundaries, especially for when they aren't around you.

People let's talk boundaries, because clearly we don't do it enough.

🗨️What’s ONE thing every parent or guardian should teach a child early to help keep them safe?

We tend not to realise that safety doesn’t start when danger shows up, but with what we teach them beforehand. Too many children are taught to "have manners" first… and to ignore discomfort second.

But imagine if every child learned this early:
👉 “Your body belongs to you.”
👉 “You can say no, even to adults.”
👉 “You don’t have to hug or touch anyone you don’t want to.”

So now mek wi know honestly:
What’s that one safety lesson you think every child should learn early, and why?
