UWI ACE is a programme under the Leadership and Student Engagement (LSE) Unit that uses arts and cu
lture a medium for developing individual skill-sets and social skills. The programme operates four main arms:
UWI ACE is similar to some programmes that offer sports training and musical instruction, but differs fundamentally in its aim to produce well rounded individuals firstly, that can play sports or musical instruments if desired. The ACE Activists use cultural forms to critically look at society giving a positive voice to members of the campus population who often feel marginalised by school fees and bureaucratic processes. The UWI ACE programmes overtly offer students the opportunity to develop skills in music and sport but more importantly teach values of teamwork, leadership, mentoring and honesty. The activist programme does this in the most overt manner with workshops on alternative media, social change and devised pieces.
