UN Jamaica

UN Jamaica Official page for the collective United Nations presence in Jamaica and is led by the UNRC

Some 16 resident and non resident United Nations organizations work actively in Jamaica. These include United Nations Development Programme

We work together as the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) to support the development efforts in Jamaica and several countries in the Caribbean Region. While each organization has programmes and projects in line with its own mandate, the United Nations Coun

try Team ensures that these programmes reinforce each other and provide the most effective aid in a well-coordinated manner. This is achieved by a Common Country Assessment (CCA); the UN's evaluation of the country situation and the resulting United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The UNDAF represents a comprehensive guide for development cooperation activities, it is based on the Country's National priorities and needs for development within the context of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and the other international commitments. After , infants, young children & mothers face increased nutrition risks.

UNICEF Jamaica, with support from the US Government, is working with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to help families by:

✅ Promoting breastfeeding and safe feeding practices
✅ Strengthening early detection of malnutrition
✅ Ensuring continued access to essential child health and nutrition services
At health centres like Southfield, trained healthcare workers are providing breastfeeding counselling, growth monitoring, and life-saving screening to keep children healthy and thriving.

In a recent visit, UNICEF, alongside representatives from the US State Department Bureau of Disaster and Humanitarian Response, including Deputy Assistant Secretary (DAS) of State, Taylor Garrett, witnessed the work being done on the ground.

Together, we are safeguarding the nutrition and survival of children, when it matters most.

On Monday’s UN World Oceans Day, we mark a new chapter — and a new call to action to .

For too long, we’ve treated the ocean as something distant and separate from us. Yet it shapes the air we breathe, the food we eat and the climate we depend on.

Now is the time to rethink our relationship with the ocean and recognize how deeply connected we truly are.

The entry into force of the global agreement to conserve and sustainably use marine biodiversity of areas beyond national jurisdiction is a major step toward caring for our shared ocean together.

But no agreement alone can transform how we care for the ocean. That change depends on all of us. Beyond the world we know, a more just and sustainable future for our ocean is within reach.

This , we're thinking about the human face of climate change.
Extreme weather events damage infrastructure, they displace families, disrupt livelihoods, and force communities to make hard decisions.
At IOM we work before, during, and after disasters to prepare communities, strengthen shelters, and facilitate safe relocations for those who need them most.
When we protect people, we protect the planet. That is climate action.
