Keep It Alive 5K Night Runs
The Guardian Group Foundation “Keep It Alive” 5K Night Run is the Foundation’s flagship corporate charity race event held annually with the primary focus of raising funds to assist Jamaica’s heath care sector. The event is hosted by the Guardian Group Foundation, the non-profit arm of Guardian Life Limited
To date, the event has raised Seventy-Seven Million Dollars ($77,000,000) and has hosted 44,000 registered participants since its inaugural Run in 2014.
The Foundation hosted the 13th Annual Scholarship and GSAT Awards Ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, under the theme, ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve’. The event was successfully executed with 38 students receiving new scholarships and grants.
The Foundation partnered with the Urban Development Corporation to clean up Hellshire Bay Beach. Some 60 team members participated in the event.
It is the LARGEST international one-day volunteer event with more than 100 countries participating to collect garbage from our coastal areas.
A team of 60 volunteers from the Foundation formed part of the 1050 persons taking part in the cleanup activities where a total of 421 bags of garbage were collected weighing 2,696.2 kgs
The Foundation and the National Commercial Bank joined forces with a $3M contribution to the Jamaica Cancer Society to assist the islandwide drive for public education and screening, under the theme: “Early Detection = Longer Life”. To signal the partnership, an MOU was signed between all parties: Jamaica Cancer Society, the Foundation, National Commercial Bank and Guardian Life.
The Foundation donated $100,000 towards the Convent of Mercy Academy ‘Alpha’ in aid of students attending the 2018 Winter Youth Assembly.
Purchase of several drums valued at totalling approximately $240,000 to assist the Starlight Youth Marching Band.
Easter Donation for UHWI Maternity Ward (April)
In partnership with the UHWI, the Foundation conducted an Easter donation of bun and cheese to expectant mothers on the UHWI Maternity Ward. Various members of staff as well as 5K Patrons, Dr. Sara Lawrence and Olympian Javon Francis disbursed the items to the patients on the ward.
Sponsorship of Tivoli Garden’s Community Development Committee Benevolent Society Annual Summer Camp programme for 150 children from the communities of Tivoli Gardens and Midtown in West Kingston.
Donation to Surah McKay (July)
USD$1,500 donation to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta to offset surgical costs for Surah McKay. Surah was diagnosed with Juvenile Respiratory Papillomatosis which caused her severe respiratory distress due to airway obstruction.
