I, Taheera Tam; Bachelors in Fine Arts, “BFA” (Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts), Dance Educator at the St. Hugh’s High School am pleased to inform you of the 'I am Beauty...not the Beast ' Empowerment Initiative, which I had launched this year through the St.Hugh's High School on Thursday, May 7th 2015. The initiative's key aim and objective is to boldly put forward an ardent
discussion as to what should be seen as the “true beauty of a female”, as opposed to the current misconstrued reality of outward appearances being the sole aspect of “beauty”. Hence, at the crux of our discourse is the concept of ‘a beauty that is pleasing to the heart and mind, and not exclusively to the eyes’. The initiative’s name; ‘I am Beauty ... not the Beast’ alludes to the title of the well known Disney Phenomenon, The Beauty and the Beast and therefore seeks to target groups of young females between the ages of 10 and 16. Our objective is to initiate a ‘conversation’ with our young ladies on the various ways in which we can emanate ‘beauty’ within our actions and thoughts. With that said, as a natural transitional pathway, the girls are being invited to become members of the Full Circle Dance and Development Centre (FCDC) (an independent entity) which aims to create fully rounded young ladies for the future. Powered by the ‘I am Beauty... not the Beast’ Initiative, FCDC is “not just a dance studio”, it is also a training ground for; discipline, encouragement, high self esteem, proper moral judgment, feminine virtue, and the attainment of high levels of performance in school and more for our young ladies. If your child has displayed a yearning for formal dance training as also an interest in attaining and maintaining good mental and emotional health practices, FCDC is the answer! As part of the initiative, the girls will engage in a 15 minute behavioural/ developmental session, when they meet for dance lessons each week. This will be lead by Motivational Speaker and notable Dance Educator; Taheera Tam BFA.
