Source Farm Ecovillage

Source Farm Ecovillage The Source Farm Ecovillage / Source Farm Community Development Institute is located in the parish of St. Thomas. Thomas and across the island.

Thomas, and is a community economic development incubator. Join our Podcast, Sundays at 4 pm JA time: https://tinyurl.com/FarmertoFarmerPodcast The Source Farm Community Development Institute (formerly the Source Farm Foundation) has been working in Jamaica since 2007 and focusing our early energy on establishing the Ecovillage (living community) component of our mission, as well as establishing C

ommunity Economic Development projects within the larger community of Johns Town and Retreat, St. Since 2007, the SFCDI has acted as an incubator for a number of projects such as Super Adobe/Earthbag Building Technology, Literacy and Art Community Projects and a Sewing and Natural Dye Cooperative. The Foundation has been instrumental in bringing Formal Consensus Meeting Management methodology as well as Permaculture Certification to Jamaica. Currently the SFCDI has been focusing on issues of food security for the Eastern region of Jamaica. The NGO is using a Permaculture and whole system approach to addressing the issues of creating sustainable livelihood for people of the region. Building the local community is a foundation mission of The Source. We have worked intensively in the local community of Johns Town, facilitating gains in education, environmental awareness, improved infrastructure and the growth of businesses within the local community. While fulfilling our mission and vision the Source has seen our impact expand beyond local community to the parish of St. The innovative solution around natural building methodology (Earthbag/superadobe building), off the grid energy solutions, introduction of Permaculture and our islandwide initiatives around Organic Farming as well as the creation of the 1st Natural Farmers Market in Jamaica, are just a few of the important community development projects being stewarded by the Source. The Source is always seeking to bring appropriate and innovative solutions to both our community, and the region as a whole, and looks forward to continuing to work with our partners to make these solutions a reality.

Report from Nicola and Source team currently in Westmoreland.

Everyone...we have arrived at bluefields and set up camp. The drive here was unreal. It is unimaginable... I don't have words. I feel like an atomic bomb was dropped on these parishes and I was driving through a war zone. There are no words. And yet our people are resilient. Helpful, shady, funny, lawless and amazing. Tomorrow we make soup and distribute the things we brought....not nearly enough for the need. OMG....how do we rebuild....yet we have for centuries and maybe it's time for us to rebuild with more thoughtfulness, care and love... working with nature and not against her. Tomorrow is another day and another day to practice living in this reality.

Once again, the dome homes at Source Farm have stood up to the fierceness of Mother Nature. We are so very grateful for this protection.

With aerodynamic design and literally no roof, 12 inch thick walls, this type of structure needs to be the future for hurricane-prone regions of the world.

Thanks to builder and the Ancestors for keeping the Source safe. Lookong ahead to sharing the technology with th rest of Jamaica.

Lovely, insightful presentation from Danielle McNish who represented Source Farm at the “Agriculture for Life in the Greater Caribbean: Knowledge and Flavors for Food Sovereignty, Climate Justice, and Social Equity” Meeting in the San Andreas Islands, Colombia, earlier this month.

The conference for 80 young farmers from the Greater Caribbean was organized by The Raizal Youth Organization of San Andreas Islands Kudos to them for this important initiative. 🙌🏾 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Grateful for the networking opportunities you made and the knowledge you brought home to Jamaica. Thanks for sharing all about your trip with the community Miss Ambassador! Excited to implement the techniques you learnt. 🌱🌱🌱
