CHAUVENISM or PLURALISM?
Call me MALE chauvinist pig if you will anybody. But my suspicion is that economic capitalism and religious materialism are what have placed women in the social relegation zone. Thus they have been transformed into partial bread winners. But role switching was never a part of Jehovah's purpose for mankind. It is therefore ironical that in this the era of "GREATEST" specialization the need for applying the principle to role definition has been completely overlooked. I suggest that what needs to be done is that in order for the male to fulfil his role as the bread winner he be (1) adequately remunerated for his labour so as to compensate for his absence from the literal garden of food production and (2) the production of shelter and clothing be removed from the list of profiteering enterprises. The alternative? Education and enforcement of the inevitable role-sharing respecting literal home management and child care. Inculcation of values and attitudes for the socialization of children is at stake and is being sacrificed on the tables of economic and political expediency.

AS THE PLANTING SEASON APPROACHES small (hillside) farmers commence land preparation in earnest. A sociocultural feature of.life among members of the agricultural (peasant) population this has been the Jamaican experience since emancipation and before universal adult suffrage. Predated by the slaveman's provision ground it naturally inherited the skeletal features of its predecessor. And slash-and-burn as a popular mode of clearing land was prominent among its inheritances.

Slash-and-burn, not for any magical reason but, moreso, to economise on time and labour and to "mek i lan muor fertile". Bear in mind that the provision ground of the freed slave was intended for home consumption and hospitality. The kind of tribal hospitality that obtained in rural communities - and even in urban "ghettos" - up to the 60s and 70s of the 20th C. Cultural practices that today have become alien to Jamaican society; except for urban ghettos, maroon settlements and a few deep rural enclaves. [to be continued]

DID U KNOW?
Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability
The JBI has spearheaded a new alliance with the companies and host communities to strengthen the ability of communities to be sustainable after mining is completed. So far, six Community Councils have been established, and it is expected that these will provide the forum for the discussing and settling of problems which may arise. The Institute has been inviting proposals in light industries, cooperative agricultural ventures, animal rearing, cottage industries and aquaculture. All these ideas have come from the people and (through) their representatives.

The JBI has accelerated its public education efforts, to help Jamaicans better understand the critical importance of the bauxite/alumina industry to the national economy. It has hosted community forums in rural areas to achieve this, and intends to expand its message via the mass media.

My Most Recent WhatsApp Encounter With FLOW
Me: how can I do so when access to customer service has been denied?

FLOW: Hello, thank you for contacting Flow. My name is Brittany from the Digital Sales Team. I completely understand how important your inquiry is, and I’m sorry I can’t assist you fully at the moment since I’m in the sales department. However, a customer service representative would be much better suited to help you with this. You can reach them at 1-800-804-2994 by call, WhatsApp 876-620-2200 or visit your nearest local store, and they’ll be happy to assist you further. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you get the help you need quickly. Thank you for choosing Flow. Have a great day!

That by my understanding I have no outstanding bill is one thing. But here's the real problem. Formerly if you were denied third party calls you could still reach customer service to speak to an agent. Now? If you are to call the TOLL FREE numbers they direct you to from a mobile number it is at an exorbitant rate. What's worse is that if one tries to navigate electronic response medium the system is unable to interpret Jamaican diction/ accent. So what the hell are we to do? Travel to the nearest office 32km/ 20 miles away to be given another face-to-face run-around?

MY BIG QUESTIONS:
1. Are all administrators at FLOW brainless?
2. Where is the OUR and or whichever other agency is responsible for regulating Utility companies?
