In April we posted photos of a fallen dawn redwood at Val de la Mare being removed by heavy machinery and processed for future use.

Well, now is the future and this is the use - check out these benches, created thanks to the skill and application of our versatile team.

There are also original photos for a true before-and-after feel.

We just have to agree where to put them now...

Run for the Trees, our flagship community event and fundraiser, will take place on Sunday 20 September at Val de la Mare Arboretum.

It's a stunning location and there are options for everyone, from walkers and beginners to seasoned trail runners:

🌳 12km - two trail loops (£15)
🌳 6km - one loop (£15)
🌳 3km - up and down the main path (£10)

Regardless of which you choose, you're sure to see plenty of magnificent trees. There'll be prizes for winners and lovely wooden medals for participants, plus all proceeds go towards a greener future for our community.

A reminder to all current and would-be volunteers that our two open monthly events are coming up soon:

🌳 Vol@Val on Friday 4 September at 9.30am at Val de la Mare, meeting in the top car park for a morning of woodland management.

🌳Sunday Session on 13 September at 10.00am at the Les Quennevais section of the Railway Walk, meeting at the sports centre before some hedgerow management.

These events are always popular and a lot of fun as well as being great for our environment. Visit our website to find out more and pick up free tickets.

This year's Regen Gathering will take place on 11-12 September at Le Tâcheron Farm on Trinity's Rue de Dielament

Regen Gathering is a festival that celebrates Jersey farming, food and growing. It's highly educational, inspiring and a great way to meet interesting people cut from our cloth, so to speak.

This year's programme has a practical focus with lots of sessions across both days. It's about learning, networking and walking away with something useful.

It's also the biggest festival yet with over 70 presentations, workshops, field safaris and demonstrations alongside live music, local food, fireside storytelling and a programme of short films.

Areas covered include biodiversity, composting, agro-forestry, sustainable grazing, market gardening, food and farming in education, community-led farming initiatives, leather production, seed saving, succession, training pathways, nature-friendly gardening and how we can use our diets to protect our health and the planet.

Autumn Adventure, our nature-themed activity day for children, will take place on Saturday 3 October at St Saviour's Woodland.

Activities include:

🌳 Scavenger hunt
🌳 Den building
🌳 Sapling repotting
🌳 Tree quiz

Tickets cost £5 per child (plus Eventbrite fee of c. £1.50) with adults free of charge.
There's also fancy dress for the kids, with prizes for the best outfits. Nature and Halloween themes are most popular but we're an open-minded bunch.

There's a choice of two 90-minute sessions:

🌳 10.30am -12.00pm
🌳 12.30pm - 2.00pm

Parking will be available in the car park next to the church and across the road at the parish hall.

Please ensure you're all (adults and children) wearing appropriate woodland footwear, i.e. waterproof, ideally with a bit of grip.

These events are a fantastic way for kids to engage with nature and for everyone to spend time in a lovely woodland while meeting like-minded people, perhaps over a cup of tea - so if you've got little ones, come along and join the Adventure 🌳

23 KPMG volunteers teamed up with us today at Val de la Mare as we continued work on the new reflecting pond at the Japanese Collection.

With such ample support, we also worked on profiling the banks and creating marginal shelves for planting. Bonus.

The team worked really well, even finding time to perfect their “baby walking” as we finished up by treading the ground - check out the four-second video to see what we mean!

Thanks to KPMG for a great morning's work as well as for the wider support in recent years. We look forward to seeing you again 🌳💚

Another day, another watering mission🫗🌳

It was second consecutive Friday at Val de la Mare, this time with a big ol' group from Deloitte. In fact, it was more like a big young group as it was full of students from Deloitte's summer scheme.

Having lots of people meant we could cover a lot of area and that's exactly what we did, spreading the love around the arboretum's tree collections.

We didn't get any volunteer action shots but here are some of the thirsty specimens that enjoyed a hearty drink.

A big thank you as always to Deloitte, who have been providing fantastic support since the back end of 2025. We look forward to the next instalment in September 🌳💚
