Wetwheels Jersey

Wetwheels Jersey Blue Mind Science proves the health benefits of being by water. Our inclusive activities are proven to be fun, safe, stimulating and rewarding.

WWJ is a specially designed motor catamaran allowing disabled and a wide range of disadvantaged islanders to benefit from a diverse selection of trips on the sea, from fishing trips and exploring the coast to learning how to pilot the craft. The Wetwheels project operates a specialist 9-metre motor catamaran for disabled and disadvantaged islanders and visitors to Jersey, allowing them to experien

ce the joy of being out at sea. We do not charge for trips and therefore rely on our fundraising efforts and the kindness of our donors and our skippers and crew give their time on a voluntary basis. Wetwheels Ethos:
To support and help other charities and charitable purposes, with the aim of improving the well being and education of the disabled, young, old and disadvantaged participants. Scientists are quantifying the positive cognitive and physical effects of water, the mere sight and sound of water can induce a flood of neurochemicals that promote wellness, increase
blood flow to the brain and heart and induce relaxation. Thanks to science, we’re now
able to connect the dots to the full range of emotional benefits being on, in or near
water can bring. (Livni , 2018)

We exist to address the lack of opportunities for disabled people to experience the thrill of the open water; spray on their face, wind in their hair, the roar of the engines, and racing over the waves. Incredibly, 80% of our participants had never been on a boat before as the opportunity had not existed until Wetwheels. The project started in 2012 when Geoff Holt and his vessel Wetwheels visited the Barclays Wealth Jersey Boat Show when over eighty disabled islanders and their parents and carers were treated to trips out to sea, which included fishing, exploring the south coast and even piloting the craft. Following a hugely successful fundraising campaign, Wetwheels Jersey entered service in September 2013 and aims to welcome in excess of 1,400 passengers each year.

This week, we want to say a huge THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers.

At Wetwheels Jersey, everything we do is made possible by the dedication, enthusiasm, and generosity of our volunteers. Whether they are supporting passengers, assisting at fundraising events, promoting our work in the community, or giving their time behind the scenes, their contribution makes a real difference.

Because of our volunteers, hundreds of people can enjoy the freedom, excitement, and joy of getting out on the water, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Their kindness, commitment, and willingness to give their time help us break down barriers and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the sea, regardless of ability.

From all of us at Wetwheels Jersey, thank you to all our volunteers for everything they do. We are incredibly grateful to have such a dedicated team of volunteers supporting us.

💙 You truly are the heart of Wetwheels Jersey. 💙

Earlier this week two of our amazing volunteers, Richard and Susan, were invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace hosted by His Majesty King Charles.

Richard has been a skipper and Susan crew, for Wetwheels for over 7 years. Richard has worked tirelessly often 5 days a week to ensure as many people as possible have access to barrier free boating as well as helping with boat maintenance and training.

It was a wonderful day where they also met up with Allen and Neill representing Wetwheels South East.

Congratulations Richard and Susan on this memorable occasion and for all you do for Wetwheels Jersey 💙
