Well, last night was something special! ✨

officially opened his ‘Deep Breath’ UK tour here in Jersey, at

It was clear from the audience reactions that his words resonated for so many people; there were moments of laughter and some tears as well 🫶🏻

Thank you to the audience members who asked their brilliant questions during the Q&A.

Thank you to the team for scheduling this into their programme, supporting LGBTQ+ voices and making all of the arrangements to bring Joe over.

Thank you to Joe for his time, humour and energy, for sharing his beautiful poems with us and for taking the time to interact with the audience members, many of whom purchased his debut poetry book!

We hope to see back in Jersey soon!🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ 🇯🇪

myndstate (he/him) is a spoken word artist, poet and performer known for blending hard-hitting, vulnerable performances with wit and humour. His words – full of emotion, storytelling, and rhyme – have made him a national poetry slam winner, got him featured on the likes of BBC Radio London, Sky Sports, and Attitude, plus have amassed millions of views online.

In his new show he takes you on a journey of hope and survival through this debut collection, deep breath. Exploring themes of s*xuality, identity, love and shame, it beautifully narrates the struggles of finding yourself, and your place, in a world that often doesn’t want you to belong. Having spent so much of his life holding his breath, hiding who he is, myndstate’s latest performance has him fully exhaling – and you can’t help but do it too.

We are SUPER excited for the amazing performer, poet and writer MyndState to be here next week, before he embarks on his U.K. tour.

We are also doing an on-stage Q&A with him about various aspects of the power of spoken word and how performance can be expression for our identities and experiences.

We are so grateful to Jersey Arts Centre for continuing to showcase local and U.K. LGBTQ+ performers, writers and stories.

Theatre has been, and remains, such a valuable space for highlighting diverse voices and building connection.
