ÚLTIMA HORA.

26/06/2026

As this very hot weather continues, with a potential thunderstorm forecast later, we’re reminding everyone to help keep protecting our beautiful island.

The land is very dry, which means the risk of wildfire is higher than normal. Fires can start easily and spread quickly in these conditions.

The photo below from a few years ago shows how a carelessly disposed of barbeque can cause a fire if it’s placed in a plastic bin – it’s vital that any disposable barbeques are never put in plastic bins – pour water over them to cool them – and allow them to cool completely.

You can also take steps to avoid the risk of fire by:

🚬Disposing of ci******es properly – never drop them on the ground
🚮Taking glass home or bin it safely, as it can start fires in dry grass
🔥Avoid campfires and bonfires

If you see a fire, call 999 immediately and give your location as clearly as possible. It helps us get there quickly.
